bought some chocolate back in janaury there was something wrong with it and i brought it back to shop ,,,shopkeeper said it looked like burnt choc but said they would send it back to england to get it tested ,,,i phone the shop today to find out what was originally wrong with choc they told me to ring customer services in england ,,,,turns out the choc was full of mould that it had been stored wrong ,in the 2 mths i was waiting for reply they have empied the shop and thrown away all the stock cleaned store etc and brought in new supplies ,,my question is they have offered me vouchers to buy more choc in shop or a choc hamper which would you take and how much would you expect ? they also said thank you very much for bringing it to there attention seeming a lot of choc in the store had the same problem

I wouldn't expect much to be honest but I'd take the hamper.

Personally as Srameen said, I'd take the hamper ;-)

Seems the shop acted very reasonably and has made a gesture of goodwill.

Was this a white bloom on the chocolate?

I know that Cadbury milk tray was very prone to cocoa burn where the chocoate got warm somewhere along the line, and this white bloom appeared.

At first look it appears to have gone off buy its actually fine. I referred it back to cadbury one time and they started putting an explanatory note into the boxes.

Wow. In over 20 years in shops, I have never heard of mold getting into chocolate.

It must have been very bad.

I would take whichever seemed the best value.

The hamper could be tiny and vouchers could be a lot more. Also I would scoff the hamper right away. If getting vouchers you might get 2+ trips to the shop, depending on value of course.

Some hampers are overpriced as you are buying a fancy wicker basket. Some less fancy stuff is better value, e.g. in the leonidas shop they have bars of chocolate which is quite a reasonable price per kg.

And a hamper from a suppler can be crammed with goods that they get at cost versus paying suppler and retailer mark up when using vouchers.

That's miserable alright, the weight of 3 bars or less. Did they say the value of the vouchers?

Keep it- loads of people go grocery shopping up north again- now that its a lot cheaper again........ Also- ignore the 'ferrior rucher' brigade- you tried to do a good turn- and only earned abuse for your trouble. Were there any left in Tesco Kilcock? My manager lives there (not in the store obvious)- might pop him a txt and get him to check it out.

Cheaper in NI??? How come the carparks in Dundalk were full of Northern registrations last weekend and Newry was half empty?

I have family up north - pop up every 2-3 weeks. Even with rate now 1.30 its still cheaper for majority of items in the south. i even priced a fridge freezer last week in currys - £379 v €429 identical item.

Keep the voucher for the chocolate- as opposed to tossing it.........

I'm going up north myself for new tyres for the car- the identical tyres here are over twice as much down here.
Its a game of checking prices- and doing your homework- rather than making assumptions- much as you checked your homework and bought your fridge freezer down here rather than up there........

Personally I've found stores like Currys more willing to haggle on end-of-line products and display models up north- than down here- I've equipped my kitchen for about a quarter the list price of the various appliances- its a mismatch of manufacturers (Kenwood, Samsung, Bosch, Miele, Zanussi, Indesit etc-) however, they're all brushed steel, and go well together........

OP- enjoy the chocolate- and indeed your Ferrero Rocher........
