Looking for a bit of advise. I'm in the market for a new car, looking at a new(sh) VW Golf, anything 2014 +. Like the idea of the Comfortline because it was my understanding that it had the multi functioning steering wheel including Bluetooth & Cruise Control. Trendline doesn't, to my knowledge, have this and the seats aren't as nice.

Looking around on Done Deal and Carzone I see a lot of cars advertise as Comfortline but the pictures have the basic steering wheel with no functions on them at all. Is my understanding of the different specifications wrong, so?

    Thanks in advance.

First one I came across was this http://www.carzone.ie/used-cars/volkswagen/golf/used-2014-141-volkswagen-golf-comfort-dublin-fpa-201214576357858160 claiming to be comfortline when it's obviously trendline (although it does have alloys??). Comfortline will have front fog lights as standard, plus it does have the multi function steering wheel (build one on the configurator and it's there).

That is a Comfortline according to Motorcheck. Comfortline on the MkVI didn't have a multifunction steering wheel or cruise control back in 2014. You have to go to at least a Highline for them back then. Standard equipment on the Golf was improved in 2015.

Comfortline does have multifunction steering wheel. The alloys on the trend line were probably added extras.

Well that explains it bazz. I'd love to know what was added to the comfortline in 2014 over the trendline if it didn't even have foglights. Alloys, armrest and better seats? OP try get a 2015 model if budget allows.

My grandparents have a 131 Comfortline that has it. Unless the spec changed after that.

I don't think the MK7 Comfortline had a MFSW when it came out. I'm sure I'll have the product guide somewhere for the 2014 model so I'll post it up tomorrow if it's not too big.

    EDIT:

Full product guide is too large to upload, so first 9 pages of the December 2013 Golf Product Guide attached with prices/specs/options.

MFSW wasn't standard until Highline model. It did become standard on the Comfortline for 2015, according to the product guide issued in Oct 2014.

Thanks for that. Am I right on reading that the Comfortline model has Bluetooth & Cruise? How do they work without the steering wheel control?

Cruise control is a separate stalk on the steering wheel. I presume bluetooth didn't come on ones without the MFSW as the bottoms on one side of the steering wheel control the bluetooth options.

Bluetooth is included in the list, though. Touch screen maybe?

I'm looking at the 2014 CL model for about 16k or a 2015 CL for 20k (rough pricing). Main reason why I wanted the CL model was the steering wheel functions and the seating.

Am I mad to spend the extra?

I've always thought bluetooth controls were positioned either on the steering wheel or at the side of it to limit taking your eyes off the road. Putting it on the stereo only kind of distracts you imo.

Why not just get an aftermarket bluetooth kit like a parrot fitted or look for a 14 reg Highline?

Never much a fan of Parrot. Also couldn't help but feel that it would look a bit daft on such a new car but that's just me.

Haven't really seen many Highline models but I'd assume there in or around the 15 CL price tbh

Well the cheapest examples of 14 reg Comfortline diesel Golfs are around the 16k mark and those tend to be the lower spec ones. If you want to go up to a 15 reg then fair enough but I wouldn't be spending thousands more just for one feature.

Bluetooth without the MFSW is operated via the toggle on the end of the right stalk that also operates the on board computer (if fitted).

How it works, fcuk knows. Can't imagine very well, but it must work somehow.

I don't think buying the 15 one would be madness if you can afford it. You come up an extra year and get more kit.

Is it odd that a garage would have a car listed for a few weeks without pictures and when you ask to see it they advise it's not ready for a few weeks because they want to sell other cars on the lot first before bringing in the other models?

Why advertise something you don't have.

I've seen garages advertise a car they have agreed to buy in as a trade in before they actually take in, usually because the current owner is waiting on their new car to arrive first. The garage could be gauging interest to get an idea what sort of price they want to sell it for. Obviously the more interest they have the stronger money they can afford to hold out for. Or worst case the car could be in very poor condition and it's taking time to make it resellable.

Why not take an unannounced trip to the garage and have a look to see if its there? Though given that there are so many 14 Golfs for sale I wouldn't dwell too much on one with an odd story.

I'm still searching for the right deal. Coming across a few Highline models that aren't too badly priced but split between going private sale or with a garage- looking like a smaller independent garage as VW are higher pricing.

Think VW dealers are offering 2 year warranties with some of their approved used cars. Something to consider when comparing prices main dealers, independents and private. Really depends on who much value you put on a warranty.

I'm finding dealers are looking for a considerable difference in price for cars that have similar milage and years with smaller garages.

That's only natural if they are offering a longer more inclusive warranty. You pay for that extra peace of mind in the price of the car. The other alternative is pocket the difference and put it aside towards future potential repairs.

Doesn't the warranty follow the car anyway regardless of where you buy it?
