Hi all, I'm 16 years old and I play gaelic football. I have been doing bodyweight training for the last year or two and I'm planning to join the gym this summer to start weight training. What type of stuff should I be doing? What type of exercises etc. Thanks in advance.

There's alot of programmes out there that promise x y and z but mightnt make you any better of a player in fact it might hinder you.
The best way to figure it out is to get in contact with a coach with a sports background and if you're joining a gym anyway that'll be perfect
Sean Flannery and Dathai O Reilly both work out of ROM sligo.
You also have Colm in stronglife gym in Boyle, he trains Eastern harps and earned his stripes under Hanley

Yes I've been to Sean's circuit training classes and found him very good so I might try and get a training plan from him. What would an initial personal training session usually involve?

There's other people on the forum that'd know better than me but knowing Sean I'd say he'd assess where you are at in terms of mobility, form when moving etc. It wouldn't be just about just getting stronger it would be about keeping you injury free too
I presume then he'd run you through some of the basic lifts. The fact he's played at a high level too counts for alot. He played for the rovers 1st team at your age!

Would a functional movement screening usually be performed or would I have to ask for that separately?

Facebook him and see. Like I was saying he's big on mobility himself so you'll be in good hands anyway
