Am last house on a line of 4 and from the second manhole in my garden the sewer goes to road sewer via a fitting I need the image for as its partially blocked.

The invert level entry pipe into the road sewer pipe has another opening above it and when I ran the sewer clearing pressure hose along the invert it comes out the top one:)

The top pipe takes the full 15 meter pressure hose:)

I believe the design is to stop the smell from road sewer passing into house sewers.
    Thanks as always.

From how you describe it you have a "Broads" or "Kenon" interceptor trap.
There should be a plug in the upper pipe to prevent smells and gasses getting back from the mains and only removed for clearing the pipe out to the mains.
Foul water from the house should always flow down and out through the trap leaving the channel empty.

Thanks, K, this is it exactly, minus the plug.

As an addendum, anyone like to have a stab at who is responsible for keeping the end manhole clear, the issue is first house is putting all sorts of stuff down, baby wipes, and worse: we have not had the issue in 30 years until house sold and 4 kids born to new owners.

This can be a very thorny issue, but in a nut-shell, the responsibility for the drain is shared by anyone whose foul water flows out through it.
If you are having ongoing problems often its best to get in touch with the neighbours to inform them that whilst the drain may be in your garden, everyone on the line has a shared responsibility in its maintenance and that it should not up to you to have to keep clearing it.
Most times people understand and accept the situation.
If you are absolutely certain to whom the culprits may be, it might be easier to have a longer chat with them telling them what has been causing the blockages ;)
Tell them all that the next time it blocks up that it will be be necessary to have a drain cleaning company brought in to do the job and that the bill will have to be shared between the households. So in order to avoid this expense, tell them that they need to be careful about what gets flushed down the toilet.

Thanks K, three of us who have been here the longest are all on board with this issue, as the sewers are there since '68, its just the first house who gave my neighbour short shrift when the matter was discussed before.

We are minded to fit a CCTV camera in a customised manhole cover for the first manhole in house number 2, I wonder does that breach any data protection laws:D:D

    :D cctv.

I know of someone who went a bit further than that when the culprit insisted that their drain didn't even flow that way.
They popped a testing plug into the offending pipe where it entered the manhole

Wasn't all too long for the offender to "get on-board" with keeping the drains clear ;)

Not making any suggestions, just telling you what I have seen on more than one occasion.
