Isn't it hard to believe in 2016 you have to get your brand new van weighed before getting it taxed under a 1963 law that has never been amended.this information is readily available just about a million times over in specs of every type of van ever built.have heard anecdotal evidence of fleets of vans from tesco and other bulk purchasers queuing to get weighed with every one having the exact same reading obviously, but have a guess what it costs 30 Euro.how can this be allowed, what a kip of a country this is that a rip off like this is allowed to continue year on year,is there a jealousy in the public sector of mr white van man earning a decent living or how is it explained,oh yeah I might add it doesn't make much sense to spend north of 30 gees to avail of cheap 333 annual road tax on another note but that's for another thread

I havent had to weigh new Mercedes vans under 3.5 ton for over 5 years as the weights are on the system...

    What van did you buy?

Some tax offices are very strict, others have a bit of cop on. A few weeks ago i was in smithfield taxing a new demo and the girl behind the counter asked for thw insurance cert, now iv been in and out of there for the last 5 years and never once been asked for a cert when taxing anything but she insisted its always been that way and i was mistaken and clearly had thw cert with me every time! I put the paperwork in an envelope and left it at reception on my way out and the disk arrived the following week....

Consistently is not their strong point

The whole process is unreal, you're trying to be law abiding pay your road tax and they still break your balls on laws they don't even have full knowledge of.i would so gladly tax a van privitely if it meant you were charged car toll prices.a van is seriously expensive to run but a nescesery tool for a builder, imagine using 33000 to buy a car for work

Last unmodified commercial I got weighed was an 09 Passat Estate.

Only stuff we've had to get weighed are vans that been converted quite a bit since build, probably like Tesco.com vans - box fitted to a chassis

Nearest to me is between Trim and Kiltale. That's an official spot
