Right Size Wooden Kennel for Adult Labrador?

    Hi,

What would be the ideal size kennel (dimensions) for an adult female labrador?

I want to get one now so that my 5 month old lab will get used to it and have some where to rest when we are out of the house, we are mainly in the house all day but when we do go out I would rather she has shelter instead of keeping her in the kitchen when she is older.

I have looked online and this one
    http://www.zooplus.ie/shop/dogs/dog_houses_flaps/kennels_pitched_roof/spike/129909
seems to be good enough but I am not sure if the Large version will be big enough for her when she is full size.

I contacted the site but they just told me to measure the dog which is no help and I cant seem to find much on google.

Would anyone here be able to recommend the ideal size kennel for an adult female labrador?

    Thanks for the help.

You would want the sleeping area to be around 4ft x 3ft.

If you can find someone near you who makes them you would have a much better quality kennel for not much more money.

ETA: I'd say that one in your link would be a little bit small. A lab would be a bit bigger than a border collie.

Thanks, I wasn't too sure to be honest, she won't be staying there overnight but I would at least like the size to be comfortable when she is in it.

Any idea how you go about looking for that? I'm in Newbridge so I guess I can just check the local pet shops for adverts.

I had that zooplus one (in XXL) out in the garden for a few years (sold it to make room for a shed with meat freezers! :p) - it was never used at all as an actual kennel so we used it for storing outdoor toys lol!! It held up grand but not sure if it'd be warm enough to use as an actual kennel as the wood is quite thin?! One thing about it if a toy they wanted was inside - Lucy would run in and out no problems but Bailey didn't like the echo/noise the kennel made and wouldn't go in.

There are a good few fellas around the country that build kids playhouses are usually happy to do a dog kennel. Try googling 'kids playhouses newbridge' or search on facebook. The man that did mine is 15 miles away and he charged me €110 for a 4ft x 2ft treble insulated kennel
with a dividing wall between the sleeping area and door, delivered and assembled.

Thanks for all the advice, I'll give it a bit more research and try get in touch with someone who can build one if possible and keep an eye out in the meantime.
The main thing I want to do is make sure it's sturdy really.

I'm hoping she doesn't decide she doesn't like it and ignores it ha that would be annoying!

I'd love to see a few pictures of that, if you wouldn't mind :)

The inside wall in mine is at an angle. I don't know how he gets through that little gap but it's no bother to him at all. Not too much help to the OP as the kennel would have to be very long for the same set up for a big dog.

Please ignore the green stuff on the outside, it really needs a power wash :o
