plants or flower for shady area

    Hi

    If any one could advice we have raised flower bed made in shady area what can we plant that doesn't become tree:D,
    flowers shrubs or anything

    Perennial geraniums grow back every year an good floral display, bees love them

    Rhododendrons grow well in shade but some varieties might eventually grow too big.

    Bluebells and wild garlic are found in shaded areas in woodland.

    Friday's episode of gardeners world on BBC had a piece on shade loving plants
    Quite a few plants seemed to thrive I was surprised at what was growing
    It's available on the bbc iplayer

    Wild garlic and some bluebells spread like mad though and will end up right through the grass

    I'd agree, best avoid planting a nuisance plant like wild garlic.

    I have grown hebe next to an existing hedge so it can do well in partial shade. They are flowering at the moment and for a while now when not much else in the garden is.

    I also have a nice purple tipped hebe, shaded by a fence, that looks interesting even when its not flowering.

    I have an acer that seems to do OK in partial shade. The label said the variety (Bloodgood) had a maximum height of about 4 metres but this depends on the variety.
