    Minced what though?

The redder the better. Look at the saturated fat content too. You pay for what you get (or something like that).

Bought cheap minced beef once - never again. Not a fan of chewing arteries / veins / fascia / cartilage with a bit of muscle thrown in...

Loss leaders can be OK, if that's what this is.

Oh Jesus, it's a bargain alert ffs, not the department of health. Buy it or don't.

€2 for what Esel describes wouldn't be a bargain.

Any more info on the type of mince?

Butcher every time for me but each to their own.

    I'd say it's grand.

My previous post was about mince in general.

If it's beef - it should be red.

There are various grades of mince beef so it's impossible to judge whether it really is a bargain or not without knowing what cut of beef it is.

In general the meat in Supervalue is very good, as good as a butcher.

true, the meat in super value is decent, I doubt this is minced crap , but good quality mined beef

Is the mince in the butcher section of Super Valu or the frozen meat section ?

some fair points raised here on both sides, but if you look on the SV website, its decent stuff, round steak mince. <5% fat IIRC. cheers OP

That's fair enough. A decent bargain it is so! Thanks OP.

Round steak is usually less than 10% fat so it should be fine. I bought the 20% stuff before and it was awful just so chewy.

Supervalu have a butcher stall as well! Pre packed meat sold in the fridge. I was told by our local store that all of the meat in Supervalu is enfer tested which is good enough for me!:)

Sorry I wasnt more specific.. yeah it's steak mince and I think it's between 10 and 15 % percent fat. I agree to stay away from that beef mince, it's horrible stuff.

I bought this yesterday. It's steak mince with less than 10% fat. I wouldn't buy mince with any higher content. Good deal.

True - u just don't know what ur getting - veins, guts n all can easily look like mince - all red.

In the 60's Butchers were very doggy. My Mam like all mothers would select a piece of meat to be minced in front of them. Thats the only way you know for definate, what type of meat ur buying.

These adverts for 'Mince' are misleading, intentionally.

In my humble opinion, and from asking, it is a safeguard against
    Bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE).
