Garmin 520 does not have mapping. The 810 does.

    It does...

Not navigation but maps you can follow to navigate yourself.

Where are you going on these spins that you need a sat nav?

If you have a poor sense of direction, a sat nav will probably make it worse.

Have a look at map before you go, get a little/lot lost, look on strava where you were. You'll learn quick enough, just bring a little food/money. A bike spin should always have a little adventure/fun...

Of course if you want to just buy a gadget buy a gadget

Going to France for 6 weeks sense of direction is good driving for a living for 30 years. Strava requires internet which can be expensive. Your probably right i have a sat in motorhome which took me down many a narrow road maybe a small map and use if required. Thanks for the help.

Are you doing a tour or doing cycles from a base?

Maps.me app with android(there maybe an Apple version) works as good as any sat nav, and you don't need a data connection.

Just download the map(when you have a wifi connection) shortly before you go for region of France you are going to and use if you get lost. €5 lidl smartphone bar mount and off you go.

Enjoy 6 weeks on a bike will be great

note the ways need to be downloaded fairly soon before use, they might only last 4/6 weeks before needing to being downloaded gain

EDIT: I meant in previous post I meant look at stava when you get home and map before you go.

Due to the excess wine, the lack of a Garmin or a combination?

    I have a 520 and it's great. I would recommend it highly.

16 hour battery with basic GPS & GLONASS (Russian GPS). About 6-7 hours if you're Bluetoothing your phone for live messages (some people will hate this) or running the live tracking.

Anyways, the default maps are only okay but you can easily switch to more detailed ones by following these steps - from DC Rainmaker again.

You can essentially get higher detail worldwide maps this way.

That's a good price like you say.

Cycle Superstore have had some good deals of late. Wouldn't mind having a local alternative to Wiggle etc

Yes its a very competitive price and there could be customer discount off that I have browsed the net so I am only 4kms from cyclesuperstore so that's were I will be going.
