Stove Surround

I am in the process of trying to get a new inset stove for my sitting room. So far I like the "frameless" stoves like this one where there is no marble surround. I have been warned that plaster can crack if stoves are fitted this way.

Is there a way to fit stoves in this way without damaging the plaster during use (and does it cost a lot!)

We just got an inset stove with a black granite surround - not sure how to upload a photo but the granite might be 100mm in width and goes all around the stove. holds great heat and acts as a radiator long after the fire has gone out.

You can also have cream granite, but apparently it doesnt take the heat as well as the black granite.

    Hi there
I wondering if the granite needs to be put in before the insert stove is fitted or can it be done after? Do you know?
    Thanks

I have a 1000mm (ie v wide) Dik Guerts inset stove like the one you attached. I was unaware of any risk to plaster and have not had any cracking since installation last March. The fire was supplied and installed by a firm up in n kilternan/Enniskerry.
