Are there any good places out there to get wedding champagne at a reasonable price? Ideally we would like to get the bottles with personalised labels to mark the occasion.

First place I'd look is Wines Direct but I don't know if they'll do the labeling for you.

Real Champs for big numbers can get very expensive. Have you looked at Prosecco or other sparkling alternatives?

Was looking to do a champagne reception and then maybe a glass for the toast. Worked it out at about 40-45 bottles needed. Judging by the price of champers I may have to go the procecco route.

Im no expert by any stretch but prosecco is pretty much the same taste and a fraction of the cost plus I doubt too many of your guests would care.

Champagne and Prosecco taste totally different.

Agree that most people would not care and some guests might actually prefer the sweeter Prosecco to the drier Champagne.

Have you an option to bring your own and pay Corkage?

Don't have to pay corkage which is a nice plus. Has anyone tried the stuff from Tesco, aldi or lidl? Reasonably priced.

Go with prosecco. It will save you alot and will go down a treat. Especially with the ladies, I haven't met a woman yet who doesn't love prosecco!

If you want champagne style without the price tag, then go for cava. It's made in the same style as Champagne.

If you want sweeter, more fruity flavours, go for prosecco. It's not my cup of tea per se, but it's always a crowd-pleaser.

I bought the wine for my sisters wedding and she opted for a cremant demi-sec, which is off-dry (ie slightly sweet) French sparkling wine, made in the same style as Champagne. Very nice it was

Cava is another alternative, no point spending money on an expensive bottle of champers if you are going to relabel them. (Money doesn't = taste) O Briens do 20% for weddings and parties.

Whelhans wine on the n11 is a great wine shop and have a great range.

Personally I prefer Cava over preseco

As above if you want fruitier taste go for prosecco.

If you want champagne, marks and Spencer's regularly reduce their champagnes to half price approx €23 per bottle and they often do 25% off 6 bottles bringing it down to approx €17.50. there are 2 they regularly reduce and they are nice.

Stay away from the very cheap Proseccos(the ones with the screw caps - they don't have much sparkle and taste like sugared water)

O' Briens - would recommend Rizzardi range of Prosecco

Aldi- Beletti Prosecco (orangey label) is a good bet for the price- think it's 8.99

I would also very much recommend their sparkling Chardonnay called Crement du Jura. This won an award at an international wine awards- beating some well known brands. Think it's about 10.99 but tastes like much more! I would call this one not as sweet as Prosecco but not as dry or biscuity as Champagne. More on the lines of Cava

If your budget stretches to it and you are more a Champagne lover than a Prosecco lover I would recommend Franciacorta - it's basically the Italian version of Champagne. I visited the region in Italy last year, and Aldi they only place I've seen it stocked in Ireland. I try not to tell people about this, as its my little secret. It's 22.99 Per bottle . Defo one for Champagne lovers and as good if not better than the big brands.

You should get a bottle of each of them and do a tasting!

Reading back over this, has made me realise that I know way too much about this topic so perhaps a trip to the AA would be in order!!

Id say maybe get some champers for ye if you like it and give presecco to all no one notices..

We tried them all for our own haha we were sick of it by the time it came around..

    My tuppence would be

Griffin prosecco was about the best price wise... Supervalue had the best deal for this (works out cheaper than tescos who are the next best) and pink is cheaper than white which is handy if you want a bit of both..

The Aldi and Lidl ones are very flat, the bubbles go as you are pouring it...Bar the one you get in Aldi for €10.99 this one is lovely very nice. We got a few bottles of this for ourselfs and the parents and family and left it in their rooms for them...

There is one that Tesco's do which is lovely the Jacobs Creek sparking that is very nice now but you would want to get it at sale price I cannot think how much it is but it isnt too cheap..

Found Supervalue was really great, and even greater was that if you are stuck for space or like us afriad to bring the wine in for fear we would drink it they offered to store it for us, we pay first and contacted them the week of the wedding to arrange collection.. They were really great i must say..

The labels then is another thing.. You can get stickers that you just could print off yourself. or you could contact a planner and see if they could recommend someone to do it for you... I could ask my aunt who does a lot of things like this if you like...

Thanks everyone, great advice from all! Have a guy to do the labels so I'm sorted that way. Looks like we are going to have a tasting session to see what we will finally go with!

Anyone have recommendations for a nice sparkling white? Actually I'm keen to hear if anyone has any interesting alternatives to prosecco/white wine/champagne for the drinks reception

    Bucks Fizz
