Ok to clarify a bit - you want to put a 1997 Suzuki Vitara engine into a 2000 Suzuki Vitara?

Both engines are the Mazda RF turbo diesel engine?

Possible bolt straight in if its the same engine I'd be worried a bit about if the Ecu and immobiliser was different. Or u might need them out of the donor car too.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suzuki_Escudo
    1997 engine - 2.0 L RF I4 (diesel)

    2000 engine - 2.0 L RF/RFM I4 (diesel)
    2000 engine - 2.0 L RHW/RHZ I4 (diesel)

So the 2.0 L RF I4 came both years which means it should be a straight swap.
