How to go about getting herd number? Cattle/Sheep

    Hi guys my family owns 6 acres of decent farmland fully fenced off with no farm dwellings on the propertey ,
    I have tought long and hard about putting something on it as I've a huge interest in farms and animals and have worked on farms I am also surrounded by farmers who are close friends who are willing to give me tips and help if needed. I am wondering what I have to do to get a herd number for cattle or sheep and what is required I would also like to know would yee recommend sheep or cattle as of first time its not for a profit more so a hobby there is also.an opportunity for me to rent 8 acres with a crush help would be greatly appreciateted

    All you need to do is contact your local DVO to fill in a form ER1. To make it easier, I've attached it for you ;)
    You don't need any qualification unless you want to apply for grants, but do you need some basic facilities such as a shed/pen for sick animals and a crush to hold them for testing, suitable water facilities and correct fencing.

    After you get yourself sorta sorta with all that, send in the form and you'll have an inspector out to look at it in a short while.
