€290 for an item that can be bought brand new in packaging at Smyths for €330?

Get real. Seller should be realistic and stay at €200.

There is a snowballs chance in hell I'd be paying €290 for a second hand electronic item when a mere extra €40 will get me a brand new one from the shop, in packaging and unopened since it arrived from the factory.

If it has seen almost no use and yer man is not too far id prefer to shove the 40 quid in my pocket

Adverts is grand if you just use common sense, have had 200+ positive transactions and most people have been sound out, mainly selling dvd's and books. I sell on Ebay too but now focus more attention on adverts as it's more straightforward and a lot less legal mumbo jumbo and rules to deal with.

Ebay is really geared in favour of buyers now and not being able to leave negative feedback for time-wasting buyers is ridiculous imho. Plus they can just claim an item never arrived and Ebay will find in their favour and force a refund. You do get a few timewasters on adverts, but at least the feedback system on Adverts is fair and works both ways and gives you an instant impression of who you are dealing with.

I never hesitate to leave bad feedback for someone who has wasted my time, more out of consideration for people dealing with them in the future than anything else. It's definitely saved me a lot of time and bother when I see a person with an inordinate amount of negatives, they won't even get a reply. No platform is perfect, but Adverts is a great resource until something better comes along.

the feedback system is fantastic to know what you're dealing with, for sure.

Sold a paperback there yesterday and had €2 as P&P....... it was fcuking €9 to send it!

When did it become so expensive to send stuff under 1kg with AnPost?

Last time I sold a charger or something weighing a few hundred grams or thereabouts, it was only around €2.40 or so.

Will be saying Parcel Motel only from now on.

Prices all went out at the start of the month. I used to be able to post vinyl records for 6 euro but now cos of the size and weight it's more like 9 euros to post. They have a booklet in the post office about the new post prices

Lots were complaining in the queue I was in the GPO (people sendimg mother's day gifts I expect).

I often use their Sameday Courier Service and it's only €9.50 so I'm not normally knocking them, but €9 to send stuff by normal post which weighs just a 100g or so is madness.

It has got very expensive but you need to get yourself the postal rates booklet and, if possible, the handy cardboard "Mail Check" gadget which you can use to check if your item is the ordinary envelope rate or large envelope...but anyway, it's little to do with the subject of the thread. :)

Its all over the place - i got a quote for a 4.5kg package to Uk from the post office for 45 euros...
Some googling- through internet brokers and I got linked to anposts site from them where i prepaid and printed label - same parcel- this time with full insurance for 15 euros.
Post office person was surprised at the rate.

I think its size not weight they charge for now. I sold a pair of runners, boxed from Dublin to Galway. €8 odds tracked.

If you use a standard size box or envelope it will be cheaper and sorted quicker.

Putting a first class stamp on a bubble envelope with a phone charger inside is not going to anywhere. Its not a letter!

Same to the US (eBay sale) Runners, boxed, €19.90, tracked.

    Site i used was www.parcel2go.com
got my parcel delivered at considerably less than half by same AnPost.
    Your milage may vary.

Also ParcelMotel is cheap for fairly big stuff at 6:50 to the door delivery tracked. Quite slowly though.

    Not Your Ornery Onager

There used to be a 'newspaper' rate, not sure if it is still available - probably not...
Basically, you wrapped the paper but left the ends exposed. You could do the same with books, AFAIR.

That's where I went wrong, dealing with a guy with 0 feedback who wanted the goods posted to him before paying

Most of the stuff on adverts these days is people buying s**t they seem on the bargains forum and then trying to flog it off at RRP....then horrified when people won’t buy it

My experience of dealing with people on Adverts has been generally good but like any other aspect of life there are some difficult people out there. As for sending goods before payment - hardly a problem - just say no.

It's good, no fees or anything. My ads might be the cheapest on there. Check my sig on profile for cheap goods.

I tried to sell a bike recently (that I used a handful of times) for almost half(750) its original value(1.5k), and was then low-balled for almost half my advertised (400) saying that it looked worn, and under the condition that I deliver it.
The bike had been used a total of 5 times and was dry stored, so it was almost brand new.

I don't know what it is about bidders, but it seems to be common practice to belittle the item and then offer way less than asking price. Either way I just ignore people that do it.

Have got rid of quite a bit of stuff on it. Lowballing is a fact of life and I just set a minimum on items. Also find it useful to offload stuff I don't want or need any more, often for free.

Are bikes worth much 2nd hand these days with the bike to work schemes?

Have bought and sold stuff on adverts.ie. It helps if you know exactly what your buying/selling is actually worth... and then totally forget that .... and instead remember the golden rule.

"An item is only worth what somebody is willing to pay for it".

I use Adverts, it's mostly a good place.

Some people are complete flutes though. Stating conditions in your ad doesnt make a difference.

Seller: Selling this €50 note, collection only, no trades or swaps, cash only.

Buyer 1: Offur €20 and wil u deelivur 60 milez awae?

Buyer 2: See mi Ads? Want 2 swap 4 1996 Gelera runner moped? Onle missin engine, wheels, body and handlebars.

Buyer 3: Looks used, offer €15 and an iphone 2.

Seller: Fcuk you very much Adverts! Withdrawn.

Has worked out for me a few times as a buyer but is a little more challenging as a seller. The bid system makes it a bit easier for people to low ball/chance their arm as it is not on the phone or face to face.

BUY on Adverts, SELL on Done Deal is the right way to do it
