Charging point being fitted by Ecars (options)

Hi Buying a new leaf sv model, standard battery 24kw

A Charging point will be fitted by Ecars, is there any choice on the type of charger that is fitted, or just one model of charger

Using the touch screen in the car, is there a way to pair a phone to it , so the apps on the phone are mirrored to the touch screen, ie short cuts on the car touch screen for spotify, Google maps, etc (Android phone)

    Thanks

Usually you will get a standard untethered 16 amp charge point, usually no choice. Untethered will be better because the Leaf will be the last EV to use the Type I connector on the car itself so the charge point will suit any future EV you may get where with a tethered charge point you'd have to buy a new one because the connector would be wrong.

What charger did you opt for, the standard 3.3 or the optional 6.6 kw ?

No way to pair the phone to the head unit, you can pair via bluetooth for audio streaming which will stream Spotify also, that's about it.

What made you choose the 24 kwh ?

A tethered charge point means the cable is attached, untethered means it's not and you use the cable that comes with the car.

I have installed tethered, because I'd rather not have to unpack/plug both ends/unplug/pack away a cable every day. With a tethered cable I have much more convenience than with just a socket. Future proofing is far less important than the comfort of the 1000 or so charging operations that a tethered cable will simplify for me. Buying a second cable to have it plugged into an in-tethered socket is more expensive than replacing the tethered cable to Type 2 in the future.

I throw the cable on the back seat, no big deal takes all of 20 seconds to plug in and un plug, hardly an inconvenience. Even when I've to get it from the boot now and again it really doesn't bother me.

Anyway changing from a j1772 to type 2 plug if your car changes isn't anymore complex then wiring a car trailer plug . You certainly don't have to buy a new evse.

Thethered is far more convienent imho

Good idea on the tethered cable , but I can see that tethered may not work with future different cars

Seriously though it's a sad day if someone finds getting the charge cable out of the boot or back seat inconvenient.

Its not that big a deal but I tend to throw the cable loose into the boot, and then shopping etc.. gets thrown on top. Its a pain in the ass if you have to put into the bag supplied every time, also on a few occasions I have let either side of the cable fall on the ground and at some stage or another I'm going to have to replace.

I sometimes put it on the parcel shelf, problem solved. + with the head rests it's not going to fly into the cabin.

standing in the pissing rain , fumbling about getting the cable out of the boot, plugging both sides in , is a lot longer then walking to the EVSE and back with the cable in your hand.

Then you have the same issues on disconnecting , putting a sopping wet cable into your car

    no thanks

PS: just had my ABL EVSE installed , car due friday

As I said it takes me all about 20 seconds maybe even less, big deal. I got a jacket and a hood for the rain.

I'm not saying someone shouldn't have a tethered EVSE , whatever keeps them happy.

or do what I do and leave the standard cable plugged in to the EVSE, so it acts like a tethered cable.
To stop the local gougers, I have a padlock on the cable to a big eye bolt in the wall. won't stop some who really wants to take the cable but enough of a deterrent to the casual thief.
Of course this works for me as I don't charge during the day.

    Good idea on diy tether

I contacted ESB who cannot supply a tethered unit

Is there any issues with leaving a cable semi permanent attached in driving rain, pardon my ignorance but as I don't yet have a home charger, I cant visualise it

No issues. The mennesekes connector on the evse is weather proof and the cable is electrically dead when not connected to the car.

Preferably arrange the car end connector to not collect water.
