Hey just a quick question.. friends passed their full test about nearly two years but never actually applied for the license.. just wondering is the date that'll be on the license the date from when he passed or from when the license is actually issued?? They're applying now before it expires and have to resi, but would he be able to be the accompanied driver for a learner once he hits the 2 year mark of passing his test or will it be a case of the two years being counted from when he actually gets the physical license.. thanks!!

He won't hold a full entitlement until he exchanges his cert of competency for a full licence. The start date will be the date he applies to the NDLS and the novice driver rules will apply the same as if he passed last week.

That's mad. As soon as I passed my test I applied for the licence. Even if I wasn't driving, that extra two years of holding a full licence would surely make a difference to your insurance premium, if not immediately then some stage down the line, or am I wrong?

He's want to get a move on if he doesn;t want to have to resit the test:

I know he's finally booked in next week, it only took me nagging him.for twelve months to do it haha I clearly gave to get better at the nagging... he's still driving and insured he just doesn't have the actual license like the insurance company took the number on the certificate as his license number so he was like it's grand I have my full license I have until the two years to apply, just don't have the physical license.. it was only when someone mentioned about the n plate thing he was like oh no...

So in actuality he has currently no licence at all you are saying. The certificate is not a licence...may want to check if he has had any valid insurance in last 2 years....

Most likely an expired one at this point though, unless he had gotten/renewed it very soon before sitting the test? Max duration on them is two years, after all......
