Did Atheist Ireland Snub the Royal Visit?

Reading over their anti-1916 manifesto last night, I could not think how every issue they have grievances with here, are just as applicable (and then some) to the British Royals which is a sectarian, non-democratic bloodline, 'divine rights' and all that, who have started numerous undemocratic wars which cost the live of millions of innocent people. The Queen derives her powers directly from God and so on...

So where was these smug, self-righteous and infallible lot protesting the royal visit then? I did not see them out of the streets. Did you?
Atheist Ireland says it declined an invitation from the Government to attend today's ceremony at the GPO.

In a statement it said: "Atheist Ireland promotes an ethical secular Ireland. The 1916 rising involved an undemocratic group killing innocent people, based on a Proclamation whose authors claimed that Ireland was acting through them in the name of God, and who added: 'We place the cause of the Irish Republic under the protection of the Most High God, Whose blessing we invoke upon our arms.'"

Atheist Ireland added that the Government is reinforcing the religious undertones of the Rising by marking it on the wrong date, to coincide with Easter rather than on the actual anniversary, as the rising began on 24 April 1916.

They weren't out on the streets for the 1916 Commemorations either by the sounds of it, so seems to be pretty consistent of them.

There's a thread about it in the Atheism & Agnosticism forum here which would be a more appropriate place to discuss this. Please read their charter before posting.
