I've seen 40" samsung TVs being sold online for around the same price.

It doesn't mention what smart applications it has. Presumably Netflix. What smart Samsungs are available for this price, couldn't see at the link you posted. thanks.

Is it Wall mount VESA only? or does it come with tabletop stand?

    Hi all

What does everyone think of this out of curiousity?

    Advert states Smart Functionality.

It may not be 'automatically' Smart - It may need a dongle to convert it 2Smart.

+1 I'd be interested to know if it comes with a stand also.

I think that it is worth paying another 45 euro and getting this 4K TV in argos.

    http://www.argos.ie/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Search?storeId=10152&catalogId=14551&langId=111&searchTerms=Bush+40+Inch+4K&authToken=&_$ja=tsid%3A30390%7Cprd%3A7337207

However it currently seems to be out of stock across the country.

a 4K TV with 50Hz Motion Rate.... why does this even exist.

    For the same price,

I'd have the Samsung 40" (non smart) TV all day long.

In fact, I'll never buy a non Samsung TV again. I think their fantastic.

If using Chromecast, you won't need the smart features.

So you think it is pointless going for it, seeing as it is only 50Hz as I am buying it for 4k?

I thought that too but my Samsung tv has issues and it's not even 3 years old. Dark lines are appearing on the screen. I'll probably overlook Samsung next time because of this. I certainly wouldn't go near any of this type of junk. Best save up and go for Sony, Panasonic, LG and maybe Samsung again.

FYI - I had a Samsung that developed similar-sounding dark vertical bands 2-3 years ago (it was maybe 3 years old too) - Got on to Harvey Norman (obviously out of warranty - I pushed the Sale of Goods Act but got nowhere). Then directly contacted the Irish Samsung office and after a bit of to-ing and fro-ing, they couriered me out a replacement higher spec up-to-date model for nothing. No problems since, and was well pleased with the service.

That sound encouraging, I might contact them with pictures. Did you email them or write to them?

I have that TV, its runs at 60Hz, it runs at 60Hz at 1080p when playing games on PS4 and running Netflix at 1080p.

I think it's just badly advertised, caused a bit of confusion in the last thread made on it.

Don't forget most of these cheap TVs have awful speakers many people do over look this.

I would agree with you there. They are fine for me, no issue really but I don't think any TV has good in built speakers.
I have six year old creative speakers and they are still better than any speakers in the tv's I've had over the years.

I bought a Philips LCD TV about 5 years ago speakers are brilliant.

Sometimes this is as easy as getting the latest SKY Remote http://sky.uebv.com/

But beware UMC are now doing Sharp brand TV's with RF remotes so forget about using them with a SKY or any other Infra Red remote

I found Samsung support very handy last week,

My almost 2 year old 55 inch smart 3D was having an issue connecting to my samsung sound bar via Anynet/ARC, so I got into a web chat with their tech support, and after about 40 minutes, and delving into some serious settings on the TV (settings menu I'd never seen before), I got the issue resolved.

I was most impressed with this (free) service/support.

    Hi

Anyone have any idea whether the Internet connectivity is only via Ethernet or would this have wifi connectivity?

    Thanks!

Taking a chance on this now. Hopefully it comes with a stand otherwise I'll be propping it up with books for a while.

I'm not very tech savvy bought this mainly for Netflix looks like that was a waste. Can't get Netflix to work at all.

RTE Player not working on my Samsung smart tv since october. Theres a seperate thread on here about it. I got on to RTE and they said they were working with Samsong on the problem, that was before Christmas. Not working last week. (it loads up ok, you see the compulsary adds and then .... nothing to see here, move along

So thought this was going to be a disaster after I plugged in my Playstation into HDMI3 (the easiest accessible port) as it had some horrible blue ghosting on screen. However switching to HDMI1 and 2 cleared up the picture. I'm happy with the purchase given I have a PS4 but if I was buying this for its Smart capabilities I'd be very disappointed as it only seems to come with basic apps and I haven't found a way to download anything like Netflix for it...

    What does everyone else think?

I have to say I'm very disappointed. I wasnt expecting miracles but this is awful. Would never class this as a smart tv. The sound is awful too.

I had the same problem with my Samsung TV late last year, so I downloaded a firmware update from Samsung, installed it on the TV, and it solved the problem.

Kind of defeats the purpose of getting a smart tv if you need to buy an android box!

If your buying a smart TV buy a good reputable brand not a cheap TV from Aldi.

I have a Smart Panasonic, one of the high end panels and I honestly wouldn't buy a smart TV again. You'd be better to buy the same screen without the smart features (usually around €100-€150 cheaper) and buy a Chromecast for Netflix etc.

    Tldr; version

if you get a cheap aggressively priced TV then spend some of the savings on an external sound system.

    emmetkenny wrote: »

Sound quality on a cheap TV won't be the best, much rather they cut corners on that than the panel tbh. You don't even need a sound bar because you can beg/borrow/steal/adverts.ie/charity shops things like old HiFi or computer speakers for a nominal amount.
    danois wrote: »

It will only be a smart TV as long as they provide updates. And security on early smart TV's is abysmal. Just assume the world can see , and in the case of some hear, everything you are doing ;)

As an example Freesat are rolling out netflix to freetime boxes but not to older ones. And BBC are ending iplayer support for older Freesat boxes in September. And some of those are still on sale. (kind of academic now since part of the UPC/Virgin rebrand seems to have included dropping access to their UK DNS servers)

It costs a lot less to upgrade a chromecast than a TV, and you can cast your tablet or phone which probably have more smarts and a better UI than your TV anyway.

Another cheap way of getting a Smart TV is an old laptop on the VGA input and get a wireless mouse, you can even use two mice if you don't want to share, things like remote desktop also allow you to control the TV from your phone/tablet.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,061 ✭✭✭✭Thargor

I say this every time it comes up, Smart functions are always a pain in the ass, they're always crippled in some way no matter how much you spend on the tv. Buy an extra long HDMI cable on Ebay for €10-15 and run it along the skirting board or under the carpet from the back of the tv to your laptop on the coffee table or your smartphone/tablet with the adapter, instant smart functionality 10X better than anything you'll get in a tv.

If I was to buy a TV all over again, the only "smart" I would buy is Android TV... the rest of them are insanely limited.

Any idea how to set up the Wifi on this? I can only type numbers for the password

Change your wi-fi password to numbers as a last resort but Id be very surprised if there wasnt a button that switched the numbers over to letters.

Just figured it out, you have to press the source button and then use the keypad on the back. Fairly unintuitive but oh well.

Is it possible to get Netflix on it without using Chromecast or an Android box?

I had bought 2 of these mainly so kids could have Netflix. I brought them back today for a full refund. Staff in aldi were lovely and as surprised as I was that Netflix didn't work.

I think I will put the extra €100 to it and buying this instead http://www.powercity.ie/?par=10-13-42LF580V

was thinking of getting rid of a fat old tv from a room we seldom use and put in a 32' tv, but think now maybe a better option to put an older 40' samgsung into this room and purchase a new one for the room we use all the time.

anybody know anything about these 4k tvs?

    bit.ly/1RLM19n

I am in a Freeview area so that bit is alright. Saorview seems to pickup the Freeview stations and sort them differently to how my recorder (not saorview but does pick up RTE etc) sorts them but thats a minor issue.
