    Hi all,

A bit late but I've found some good deals on Lenovo's website.

Just google the website and click on deals (can't post links as new user).

Do your research before buying anything, obviously...
I'd been doing mine and found a model I liked for about 200€ less than Amazon or anywhere else.. and a further 50€ as cashback.

Free shipping in Ireland as well.

I was in need of a upgrade, so this was a perfect timing.

Probably a good thing to mention I suppose.

I always do clean installs on my computers, so it is not a concern for me.

There was a lenovo bios issue, that meant even after clean install, it went back to lenovo for some updates or software, so maybe do the bios fix first. Lenovo service engine was the name of the bad bit

Is this the Chinese influence, I don't remember this type of stuff under IBM.

Look around before buying from the Lenovo website. The "Sale" is always on, and very unfavourable in Ireland.
The model names convince people that they have a bargain.
For example a Lenovo B50-10 may be €209 on Lenovo Ireland, and £240 on Amazon UK (over €100 more expensive), But if you look closer, the UK version will have a better processor, more RAM, and a larger HD.

That one isn't a great example at all, but with the Lenovo site down, I can't think of any others.

They usually have a longer name to identify them better, with.
Also, the much better offers they have in Europe, are never available here.
In France and Germany you will get nearly double the spec for the same price. I rang them once and was told they won't/don't offer the offers abroad here. IIRC, Lenovo.ie are just official resellers.

Both have dropped prices ridiculously low at times, and they are always doing cashback offers, which we rarely get here. If buying a Lenovo, it is better/cheaper to buy from Amazon EU or another seller in Europe (or use mail forwarding on Lenovo site) and buy the Irish/UK keyboard for €20. It still works out much better.
Unfortunately, they have it fairly tightly tied up as most of the better offers in Europe are better after cashback, but you can't apply for that cashback for those, from Ireland.
They really seem to be pedalling their worst products for the most they can get for them over here.

There are good prices to be had on the site, but when comparing, dig a little deeper than just the display model name.

I did say do your research!

For the specific model I purchased, the price was 200 euros cheaper than the other European Amazon`s (200 cheaper than the German and 250 than the Spanish, for the exact same specs). Some other European retailers had it for 350 more or so.

I'm quite knowledgeable with tech and PCs, so I know I didn't compare apples and oranges, but rather the actual specifications and full model number.

There was a valid cashback offer for this model (also valid through Amazon, by the way).

As per your replies it does seem that it's a bit of a minefield, and not everything is an actual bargain... Then again, there were at least a couple of good deals to be had.

Lenovo? Let it go! Some crappy laptops they are pushing out lately. Customer care are the same. But if you want a cheap one, go ahead, you'll be buying the next one in 1-2 years time anyway.

I've used various Thinkpads for almost twenty years, my current one is almost three years old and I've never had a bit of bother.

We use the thinkpads in work, with the 3 year business warranty they work out fine. The newer machines the plastics seem cheaper and are certainly more fragile, as are things like the battery catch.
Thankfully they have brought back the touchpad buttons instead of the crap paddle thing...

You see, I expected this! :-) One mentions Lenovo and first thing is ThinkPad thrown in. I agreed with you on that, TP's are in a different league. I'm talking about the plasticky stuff aimed at the average user being very poor quality. End of shtory.

Then what would you buy? If your budget is 200 euro, then no matter what brand, the laptop will always be plasticky! However, if you are buying one for 1000, you can choose the lenovo yoga or y series for that money, too. Both of these series are not plasticky!
