Just a query guys, Since Audi uses longitudinal engines for the rear wheel bias quattro (torsen) does that mean they use completely different transverse engines for the FWD layouts?

No. There are longitudinal FWDs too. And transverse with Quattro!

I know the haldex quattro models are transverse because they're FWD bias that's why I said torsen. How does a longitudinal FWD work? I thought they were only for RWD and obviously RWD bias quattro

Good example is a b5 Passat, that's FWD longitudinal too. But had the option of a massive range of engines in different sizes, and configurations like 4,5,6 and 8 cylinder options, as well as having AWD. They wouldn't have had that flexibility on transverse mounted design.

There are models that came with transverse and inline configurations, but IIRC these weren't designed from the outset to be like that. Example being the fiat 500 or the rover 75

Maybe I'm over thinking this. Is the question whether a transverse mounted 2.0 TDI (as an example) is the same engine as an inline mounted 2.0 TDI? Or are you asking whether they have inline and transverse engines offered on the same model?

The last generation A4/A5 in both fwd and Quattro had the engines mounted longitudinal. Current A6 is the same afaik.
