Does anyone know would 1/4 inch laminated glass stop a criminal from getting through a side window and opening a latch?

Depends on how quiet they wanted to be. If the window is fairly tucked away or in a quiet area, or maybe if you're not home then it's as unprotected as normal glass.
It won't break as easily but you're adding less than a minute to their journey as they have to give a few digs with a hammer and a few swift kicks to the glass to enter.

Less broken glass to clean up though.

Why post this in the PC Building and Upgrading section. Unless this side window is on your PC and the side latch is a Kapersky lock ;p

Might've imagined "PVC Building & Upgrading"

A whole forum dedicated to PVC, that would be glorious.

Jokes aside I think the Home Security Systems forum might be the place for this OP, possibly construction and planning I'm not really sure

Maybe but the op posted the same topic yesterday in Cycling :o

Given that one has already been moved to Construction (Security seems to be electronic systems only) I'll close this dupe.
