hope some one can help me out,
I bought a new Tv, its full HD , smart , with DVD, thought I got it all covered. Its Saorview approved .
so I plugged it in tuned it and I got all the Irish Stations plus radio, its great. but when I put the Scart lead from the old sky box I use , I can hear the sky channels BBC ect but I cant see them.
I don't know what I should be doing to see the channels.
    Does any one know ?

The scart lead is most likely half unplugged from either the TV or the Sky box. Make sure it's fully plugged in on both ends.

If you have a Sky HD box, you should get an HDMI cable and use this instead, this will give you a better picture quality, but there's no need whatsoever to upgrade to a Sky HD box if you have a normal box.

Could be a damaged cable in that case

maybe cable is old and it only worked with the old Tv, changed them around to check and no problem, can see channels on old tv.
Time to return new TV I think might be too advanced to use !!! I have not had Irish Tv cos old Tv did not have Seorview, now I have Seorview I don't have sky box channels to look at.
I not winning , not happy ... only have the new Tv 3 days now,,, can not live alone with RTE

I would try another SCART lead before returning the TV.

Also there may be a setting on the TV that needs to be changed.

Are you able to see the SKY EPG on the new TV.

How old is the Sky box? Does it have HDMI connection?

I must be missing some thing some where about this and I used to be always so electronic minded. A tv never got the best of me. till now.

there is no HDMI cable, The sky box is the old old silver one, all I get is a black screen, no sky menu or display at all.
from memory I can key in channel numbers and can hear them , but its black screen.

yea new scart lead and maybe new HD Skybox might be the way to go. saving for the TV was a long long effort , but I am sure I will find one second hand on those for sale Facebook pages.

Were you planning on leaving Sky in the next 12 months? If not, get in touch with them and get a new HD box and a loyalty discount. Scart to HD TV is just counterproductive.

You certainly don't need a new Sky box, HD or otherwise.
Does the box still work on your old TV?

While you may be able to eventually get it working if you have an active Sky subscription you should consider calling Sky and telling them your cancelling to see if they give you a free newer HD box. Having a new HD tv and watching through a scart lead is a waste of the potential of the tv.

If she was a Sky subscriber she'd have RTE on sky, she's almost certainly just using it for free channels.

yea the box , leads , all works on old TV.

its not a Sky problem , I do not think, if I switch to old tv every thing works, but on new fancy tv all I get is sound.

What is the make and model of the new TV to see if there is a setting for video that needs to be changed?

It is also possible that the video output signal on the SKy box needs to be changed

Try to be sure that the Scart connection is fully inserted in the TV, sometimes it can look like it's in but might not fully be.

the new Tv is a Hitachi from Argos , not as good a picture as the one I bought in Aldi last year that fell over and broke with in weeks of having it. so Tv Luck is never with me of late. and that Aldi Tv last year worked with the sky box and Saorview.

I have no idea if signal needs to be moved on the box,, I have no idea why its not working ,,, all I have is Sound of the Channels from the sky box so Scart lead must be in right if sound is coming through.

    so I am where I started ,
Thanks every one for the questions and trying to find out whats up with it. but I just cant make it work.

the other Tv I have is belong to a friend she lent it to me the last 2 months so must give that back this evening. I paid over what I could afford on the Tv at €310 saved hard for it. but now I think the money be best back in my pocket and I just try buy an old second hand tv.

At a guess that could be your problem. You need to ensure that you have selected the correct source/input.

Could you just have run the soarview cable through the sky box and then to TV and that would give the sky channels on an analogue channel?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20 Rally chick

i have no understanding of cables and what analogue channel is !
sorry to ye all , there was once a time when I could do all that and understand , but I live with constant pain and problems with my head since a car crash so I guess I learned today there are still effects.

a friend visited me for tea this evening and turned it on to see what the problem was and all of a sudden it works for her , she is not quiet sure what she pressed on the remote but its all good now ,
all channels can be viewed now
Thanks for yer help , sorry I just did not understand or still don't.

    all fixed.
