New Laptop - Unlimited Budget But The Cheaper, The Better

    Hi all,

As per the thread title I'm searching for a new laptop. I've always been a Sony Vaio user, but unfortunately Sony have discontinued their PC products and with my trusty Vaio on the blink after many solid years of use, it's time for me to get my search underway.

It wouldn't be used for any gaming apart from a burst of Football Manager on a rare occasion, but it would be used very heavily for general browsing, in addition to a huge amount of streaming live sports, TV shows etc. For that, I'd like to have a large screen with a very good display.

In terms of budget, I'm open to anything but the cheaper I can get a top of the range model for my needs, the better. I'm open to suggestions on any brand, model etc, but the only stipulation I have here is that I won't consider a Mac and want to go with Windows.

In summary, my requirements are (with other stuff added):

    - Something that can handle lots and lots of streaming, downloading and general browsing. Gaming isn't important.
    - A larger screen (at least 15.6 inch)
    - A very good display
    - A very good battery life
    - Good sound quality
    - At least an i5 processor
    - Windows (10), not a Mac
    - Any make/model
    - Unlimited budget, but the cheaper for my needs, the better

    Thanks all. :)

    The best laptops

They always take 10% off for bank holiday weekends. So Easter Monday offer should be there. Speak to sales before the weekend and use your plastic when the 10% code appears

I have a Dell XPS 15 9530 from 2014. Quad Core i7, 16gb ram, GT 750m, 512 SSD. Thing is lightning fast! Also has a QHD+ display 3200x1800. It puts most other laptops to shame, including anything made by Apple at a similar size.

It's a thin device too, and the battery life was a solid 9-10 hours when new. It's always plugged in now, but after two years of 10+ hours a day use, I still get 4+ hours.

It's still super fast, which is the most important after a couple years.

Sound quality isn't bad and they can get pretty loud, but they are laptop speakers. I've listened to music and watched movies etc but if I can I plug into external speakers or headphones.

I think when I got mine 2 years ago I paid about €2200 direct from Dell. It should be cheaper now second hand if you can find it. Otherwise, if your budget really isn't an issue it should be about that price for an upgraded new model. http://www.dell.com/ie/p/xps-15-9550-laptop/pd?oc=cnx5516&model_id=xps-15-9550-laptop Try and get a discount code for at least 10% from a Dell newsletter or something. It's a large chunk.

Any other questions about my model I'll try and answer them.

I'd agree on the XPS 15 with edge to edge screen. Beautiful laptop, and great spec for the price. It has to be one of the best laptops on the market right now. It's on my wish list at least!
