Toyota Yaris timing chain replacement

I recently bought a Yaris but I managed to feck up and buy one with a worn timing chain. I am kicking myself senseless for messing this up. Garage in Navan quoted 670 euros, but I have seen comments here it can be done for 350-400 euros.

Any ideas of where best at reasonable price to have the timing chain replaced?

    Cheers

Why do you think the chain is gone? The Yaris 1.0 has a strange tappy sound from the low idle that may make sound like a chain.

Normal idle sound when it's up to temperature:

The garage checked it and said the chain is gone. The engine has a rattle and it doesnt sound like in your video, it is much more prominent.

Not a good sign then. The timing chain on this engine doesn't have any design faults really that would make it fall apart other than poor servicing.

Your car must not have a great service history. Oil changes are vital for the chain :(

Did you service it after you bought it?

Might be a good idea to give it a full service just to be sure. You don't want the new chain failing too.

Generally timing chains last forever unless the vehicle has been serviced poorly. The oil lubricates the timing chain which reduces wear greatly but once you start skipping oil changes the chain begins wearing at increased rates which leads to premature failure.
