RTE's weird scheduling.

I notice a lot of new shows have a late night time slot.
New Eureka! on tonight at ten thirty,a comedy science quiz apparently. Why would they put something like that on late at night and not at seven or eight o'clock? Who's going to be interested in such a thing at that hour?
Not unusual for them either, their imported US shows often end up with a ten or even eleven pm slot.
Rarely watch RTE but it bugs me for some reason.

Firstly, you have a thread for these questions.
Secondly, Eureka! would probably have to be on after the watershed.
Thirdly, RTE don't have a clue.

Placing a programme at 10:25 is not exactly a late night slot.

They quickly shifted iZombie out of prime time and placed it after midnight, alongside with other US shows like Sons Of Anarchy, Tyrant etc. They just don't get an audience anymore on RTE2, as most of these shows are available online through Netflix and other players. The X Files struggled to even get near 100k for their 6 episodes on primetime. Long gone are the days when they could get 300k for shows like Lost and Desperate Housewives.

In one way you can look at it that RTE2 are at least providing these shows - leaving the viewer to record the series.
But in another way, would they be better off saving money and investing in their primetime schedule instead.

Not all that long ago, RTE2 usually showed the likes of RPM Motorsport, European Tour golf and Samsung Super League / FEI Nations Cup show jumping at midnight.

Scrapping these was almost as big a mistake as plonking fairly major US series in this slot instead, IMHO.

The Savage Eye,Republic of Telly and other "comedy"shows get shown after ten if I'm not mistaken .They're a gift for 9pm,more people are watching and in the mood.Madness to spend money on these shows and give them a decent slot.
