    Hello everyone.
Basically i want to know what the minimum requirments for getting a herd number. Ive all the relative ag courses done as far as i know they only come into play when your inheriting land or applying for grants etc. Just need to find out some more additional information on getting a herd number.
    Thanks in advance :)

    hi
You need yo apply to your local depatment of agricilture, district veterinary office for a new herdnumber.
An inspector will then come out and inspect that you have suitable facilities in place, (crush, handling pen, small shed for housing a sick animal, good perimeter fencing etc.), and if their happy with everything you'll be issued with a herdnumber within a few weeks.
that's how it was for me anyways when I got mine last year.
    Hope this helps

According to the website smallholding.ie you need a minimum of 1.5 acres to get a herdnumber.
I think in order to draw down any payments you need a minimum of 5 hectares (12.5 acres)
You'll also need to show you own the land or have a rental agreement on paper.
