Was anyone listening to Radio Nova this morning? Dee and Marty didn't make it into work so the receptionist and accountant had to take over! First time I ever heard of something like that happening!

Judging by a pinned tweet on Marty's Twitter page I'm thinking it was staged:

that morning show is the one blip with Nova. those two are so self indulgent, it's so annoying.

That seems to be the Today FM recruitment policy recently.

I nearly prefer the two people from this morning.
They were decent, and just got on with it.
And I didnt hear them say "Tttttune" once. So thats a positive.

Did they 30 per cent more music and 30 per cent less ads? Marty must say that in his sleep

What radio station would out the Accountant and Receptionist on in place of presenters.... What a ridiculous stunt, did they make out that Dee and Marty just didn't turn up?

Yep. And then rang them live on air about 9am; woke them up and grilled them for not showing. All a bit weird. Did have the feel of being staged alright. Don't know what time the accountant/receptionist started from, but you'd imagine they'd do 9-5 normally, but were on air well before 9.

Also, I think it was world sleep day or something daft like that; may have been a coincide though.

That said, I presume it's something that has happened somewhere before and I don't know what the usual contingency would be.

They've been going on about it ever since so at this stage I'm thinking more stunt than anything else. Also having an accountant in the office before 7 did seem a bit unbelievable!

complete stunt. these guys are just massively self indulgent.

I think Dee today tweeted the "hilarity" that ensued when she asked Marty to defrost chicken yesterday...

    ...see the thing is ....

they're a couple!!!...who present a radio programme.....they are so ZANY!!! oh did I mention they are a couple?

i think the person who drew a parallel with that annoying mortgage couple hit the nail on the head.

last year they "split up" for a week and lived in their parents house....cos you see thats zany cos in real life , they're a couple!!

    rant over

The show itself doesn't bother me at all. Haven't found anything better to listen to in the mornings. I just thought that the Friday show looked a bit staged.

Agree with this. They're a bit of life in the mornings, and that's all you can ask from the show. Stuff is often set up - though not quite as stages as Friday - but if it wasn't, there'd be no show.

Don't understand the level of ranting above really. If there's anything to rant about on Nova, it's that ear-shattering American voiceover, Johnny Bowe's excruciating football analysis (sounds like he knows nothing about the game) and John Harte. 's way of putting random. Pauses into every news item he runs sentences into one another as well it's. Very hard to actually understand him. At times.

BTW, did they give any indication of what they were playing at on Friday?

I think Greg from 10am is a fine show.

They apparently made a statement this morning during the first hour. I didn't put it on until 7:15 so didn't hear it.

their hipster type music knowledge is skin crawling. I would consider them "Greatest Hits" type DJs. They know the first paragraph of an artists wikipedia page but that's all , they scratch the surface. but they like to come across that they are music aficionados...oh and did I mention they are a married couple!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,141 ✭✭✭guile4582

they have gone overboard now...Dee is pregnant. the self indulgence will now know no bounds

I do also feel that the afternoon show is more stressful than it needs to be. Pat C really just winds people up about driving in dublin

interesting to see if he can do a show without a soundboard

LOL. i dont think they are the worst.. there are far more annoying breakfast radio double acts... but couldnt argue that

Actually they both are very knowledgable about music, but I'm sure they realise that most of their audience are not, so don't go into it in such depth as someone like Pat James does.

And don't forget that like every FM station these days, daytime presenters at least don't pick their own music.

Missed this at the time. No station would do this. If they failed to show, presumably they have a producer who could run the desk until they do, why ring them at 9am. Kevin Brannigan is PD there or something along those lines, presumably he'd jump on air once he gets in if no other DJ's are around.

Anyway, happened a while ago. No chance of a lie in now with a kid on the way.
