Can anyone recommend a good quality large breed puppy feed for my 12 week old puppies. They are on red mills which isnt agreeing with them. Thanks

    What is your budget?

The large/small breed thing is largely marketing nonsence. There is no difference in the nutritional needs of a chihuahua and that of a Saint Bernard other than the amount of food they need obviously.

Thanks for that. I was hoping to get a good size bag for €60 approx but i think quality varies a lot between brands?

I put the younger of my 2 Huskies on Markus Meule Naturnah at 4 months. They're both thriving on it. The kibble is soft and brittle so could easily be given to a pup. We feed this in the mornings and raw feeds in the afternoon.

We buy from zooplus online. 2 x 15 kg bags (with the 5% discount) for around 70/75 euro - the price of ONE bag of 'pet supermarket' brand. Much better ingredients too! And free delivery.

There are better foods of course - but not for that money!

I'm feeding Purizon which is about €62 for 13.5kg on zooplus. My little dogs eat about half the amount as they did when on Barking Heads which probably cost a bit more as I had to pay sterling prices for that. You can save a bit of money if you buy 2 bags at once.

Change over slowly as there would be a big difference in the ingredients in red mills and it takes them a bit of time to adjust to new foods.

Red Mills "not agreeing" with them : how does this show up?

I'm wondering because our 3 month old puppy has been changed from a mixture of tinned dog food (I don't know what kind but the cheapest available I'm sure) and family leftovers - her parents are working sheepdogs, she's not from a professional breeder of any sort, just the owners of the two dogs.

She's now mostly on kibble (Hill's for puppies/large breed) with some tinned puppy food, about a tin a day, mixed in with her kibble, midday and evening. Kibble on its own in the morning.

The thing is, this last 4/5 days she's been terribly constipated, like little stones almost, they sort of clink when I put them in the bucket I use to gather them off the grass!

She had a bout of diarrhoea two weeks ago but it didn't seem to be anything important, I gave her rice and chicken and it cleared up in 24 hours. I haven't given her rice for over a week now, and the constipation seems to have begun when she went back on her previous mix. Could it just be a consequence of the diarrhoea, or is it likely to be the food in some way?
