So we have a fun competition on in our club today, playing an 11 hole stableford with a twist, your only allowed 3 clubs, what would ye bring? I'm thinking driver, 6i (suits all par threes), and a 54° which I will putt with!

3w instead of the driver so you can putt with that!

3 wood or hybrid... you can use either as a putter.

I would always choose putter as one of the clubs - think how many putts you'll have.

    5i, PW & Putter

Fairway wood, mid iron, gap wedge.

Fairway wood for tee shots and long fairway shots.

Mid iron to cover your par 3's.

Gap wedge for chipping and putting

I practice putting with the blade of the gap wedge all the time. I probably roll it even better than the putter ;)

+1 sometimes I reckon I should leave the putter in the boot.

    3-wood
    7-iron
    Gap wedge

I think the 3-wood would be more versatile than a driver. Gives you options for 2nd shots on par 5's and long par 4's.

Fair enough, I'd say you're in the minority with that though

Half of your shots will be putts. Mad to not have the putter in the bag.

Driver, 6i and sand wedge. Played one of these comps over the winter and got 31 pts over 14 holes. Wedge is very versatile around the green. Take a 2 putt on every green n walk off happy.

Thanks for all the ideas guys but golf is off now this afternoon for me, got a belt this morning at a camogie game and have 2 different elbows on my left arm now.

It's an interesting question all the same, a lot of thinking involved

Time to quit the camogie if it's going to interfere with your golfing like that!

I would have gone 2 iron, 6 iron and 60 degree.

5 wood, 7 iron and putter.
I'd use 7 iron as a jigger round the greens putting grip as well.

I would go with 5 wood, 7 iron and pitching wedge.

Hope the arms not too sore
