Went to view an A3 today out of brotherly helpfulness. 2006 Red Diesel. FSH. 86k miles. Timing done. Bodywork in good condition. After verrry close inspection of entire car, I'm pretty sure both rear doors have been resprayed and blended into the rear panel. Very tidy work and colour matching, except for a tiny paint run underneath one of the handles which I almost missed. Is something like a respray on 2 doors a reason for concern? I presume most used cars 10 years+ have some cosmetic paint jobs somewhere. I just find it strange that both rear doors required attention. Car drives beautifully and a mechanic mate has given the engine the thumbs up after examining it.

If the floor under the boot carpet is straight, then nothing to worry about. Have you checked the dates on the rear lamps? Do they match?

Yes, just rang mechanic he said he lifted the carpets to check for this reason and reported it's perfect (I never even considered that). I'll check the lamps, good thinking!

Most cars will see paint at some stage, at ten years old chances are there's been something done. If the mechanics happy with it I wouldn't be overly concerned.

What I would double check is the service history. Verify it by calling the garages, it's rare to find a low mileage one like that. They exist but are exceptionally rare.

Have a 10 year old A3 petrol and have treated her like a baby, still had to have a little paint work done on back bumper and roof so wouldnt be too concerned on that issue at least.

    Whats the asking price btw?

I'd also be validating that service history. 86k miles on a 10 year old diesel car is very low. I'd be verifying that with the garages who stamped the service book.
