Kia Rio 2013 V Fiesta 2012

So looking to purchase a new, small, reliable, economical, cheap to run car, as new as I can afford with €10k. Have it down to 2 at the moment, a Rio vs a Fiesta.

Seriously considering buying the Kio Ria, its a 2013, 1.2l, Petrol, Kia warranty to 2020, high spec car, really like to look of it.....but there is just something in the back of my mind stopping me buying it, duno if it as its Kia, or the mixed reviews I have read so far on it.

Have seem tonnes of 2012 Fiestas out there, 1.25, petrol (would ideally like a 1.4l but harder to find), sturdy car I feel, and reliable brand etc.

Both are similar money...which should I go with?

Currently drive an old focus, super reliable, but its a 1.6 and drinking petrol at this stage, high tax etc, and want to downsize as not doing that much driving, c.8000km per year.

Of those two id probably have the Kia as its a little bit different. It has a better warranty and I think the interior is nicer. A lot of them have nice extras too. You wouldn't go too far wrong whichever you choose. I wouldn't have any reservations over the brand, modern Kia's are very reliable and nicely built.
Old Kia's weren't rubbish, they were just old fashioned and the styling wasn't great. Hyundai and Kia are becoming more and more popular every year.

Cheers for the input. I do really like the Kia, the interior is nice, nice spec with alloy wheels, air con etc, and think its got a nice look externally too. I have driving it and its nice, obv different to driving a 1.6 focus, but did find it quite zippy, and ideal for my driving needs. And its a 2013 which is a bonus too as wont be changing my car for a few years after this.

I suppose I just dont know that much about Kia's so am a little wary, as for me its a lot of money!

The one that you like more...

Fiesta handles brilliantly and gives a lot of fun, even with a lawn-mower engine like that. Can't say anything about the Kia.

But from the sound of it you're doomed - whatever you choose, you'll regret not choosing the other one :D

I spotted a few in Dublin. I'd imagine they were rental fodder though

There were 2 1.4 petrol Rios registered in 2013. They'd be old model I'd say.
OP is looking at a 1.2 which would be new model.

    Plus
really like the look of it

    Wouldn't be the old model!

    Whoops didn't spot that.

To be honest the new model looks great and if someone wanted an A to B car the old run out one would be fine if bland.

What do you mean here? Just I did a motor check on the car. In the first year it looked to be owned by a dealer (or possibly a rental company), and it did 12000km, then purchased privately and did 50000k in 14 months. I was wondering about the first 12000km, but if it was rental that would sense. Is that likely?

Yes its the newer model, I think looks an awful lot better than the older one

Ya I really like the look for the car. We just need something reliable for shorter driving. Just a bit worried that its only a 1.2, is there going to be a big difference between at 1.2 and 1.4 in this car, or would I even notice?

Just check the car over correctly. What I was implying was that most of the older Rio, not the one you're looking at, we're sold to rental companies to get rid of the remaining cars.

Just check youe one over correctly. I'd imagine the 1.2 would be perfectly fine
