HAHA to quote DR Evil............one milon dollars.......:)i've been rationing them as it is and trying use then on second cycle heat so that they are not lost on repeats (worked ok last year)

Have On-Dit, Fiston, KYA, in the tank, getting Lisnacrann Sunnyboy and Gamin. They'll do me for this year I'd say.

There cheap at that price. He was a super bull. Easy calving and show quality off spring.

KYA on all heifers last 2 years

v happy with him, short gestation and v easy calving

used him on lmx fr heifers this year as a few replacements, wouldn't be as nice breedy heifers as my own beef replacements and they calved him no bother,

they are small but take off after 6-8weeks

lighter cattle are making the better money last few years at weanling stage IMO

has KYA not got very poor docility and carcase conformation figures, what point in breeding a narrow mad cow just to have a 5 star replacement figure !!!

hoping to use on dit, gamin, dubai, on the lims and roberto, fiston, cf52,doncammillo, farouk on the char cows.

Not sure how they'd be really, there is only one way to find out I suppose. I'm just think the pt x KYA would be a nice mix with plenty milk

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 65 ✭✭grass n slurry

Iv a mistake made, it's the Angus bull AYR I ment to say I'm thinking of using to breed replacements, mixed up the 2 bulls. Bit of a difference between the 2 when you look at the figures

    Diplodocus S951
    Pepin S2100
    Ursul URX

and Carlo LRY in the tank and will get more Kyleherd Ivan ZKY

    also will use

Blonde works well on those sort of cows, KOY, if you don't want to keep any of the calves for replacements, no milk there.

If the seat's wet, sit on yer hat, a cool head is better than a wet ar5e.

Bought 10 on-dit straws, so will use a share of them. Plan to use dancer and tonka. All lim Bulls. Will use a young tonka bull that I am keeping for the commercial heifers that I plan to let up.

Finish bulls under 16 mts sell surplus heifers for breeding most should be 4 and 5 star replacement.

I think you asked about RIO before, I've two so far from heifers, a bull and heifer. Both were extremely easy calved at 9 months and 4 days, smallish leggy calves.

Have you seen many KOY cows with no milk? I only have a few but I couldn't say milk is an issue. Attached is a 25month old heifer that calved last week.

first I heard of KYA problems like that. he is off carton roe ernie so would be more traditional than some of other angus bulls & would not suffer from narrow behinds like some of the other easy calving bulls that have been imported by prog genetics

some of the best breeding cows I have had were off Carton roe. I still have one young cow and her first son was exported to Spain 6 months ago and the new owner is really happy with his thriving (& work)

No shortage of milk there. What was the mother like for milk?

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 12,756 Mod ✭✭✭✭blue5000

RB I only had one. Your heifer must be getting it from the mother's side?

maybe blue. I only use blondes on milky cows but KOY is a maternal bull so surprised at those figures.

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 12,756 Mod ✭✭✭✭blue5000

Within the breed his maternal figures are ok, but look across breeds too. It's hard to get everything right! They are quiet though.

I only found it out when I bought a very plain bull whose mother was by KOY, he threw super calves. I reckon the reason he was such a plain looking bull himself was because he was half starved as a calf.

I really only got interested in cows from picking the bulls but recently I have started saying to the ai man to pick a bull that will bring more height, muscle etc.i think this works better as he sees hundteds of calfs every year while we only have thirteen cows
.we generally give eby ,cwi or one of our own young aa bulls to the maiden heifers.

Bulls we have used is lzf. Fgg .fyb. csq.kjb .csq.wbh .stq .vdv

Have given this BB cow TVR past 2 years and she just pops them out .. They all fill out well.

Your a braver man than me!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,316 ✭✭✭tanko

A neighbour of mine is into trying to produce show calves and uses TVR a lot, plenty of sections with him. His best cow was having a bull last year, he thought he'd take him with the Jack, calf got stuck at the hips and died, the cow died a week later.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,127 ✭✭✭✭patsy_mccabe

The funny thing is TVR and EFZ are both out of the same cow Ardlea Coillte.
TVR by Vantastic and EFZ by Ampertaine Commander. Huge difference between the two when it comes to calving.

Had a fella saying that you could tell a limos calving difficulty by looking at his head, anyone ever hear of that? Something to do with a neat, small head.
Now personally I'd be looking at his arse :D
