    Hi

I have a 3 zone house for heating with a oil boiler
Zone1 Downstairs, Zone 2 Upstairs Zone 3 Water

Zone 1 and 2 work fine, but when i try and heat the water the tank doesn’t heat up.

If i Try and heat the water with the electric immersion, it works fine.
i've changed the thermostat, but that had no change.

    Any ideas

The motorised valve is probably faulty and the actuator will need to be replaced .This is one of the three small electric boxes connected to the pipework usually in the hot press . Call a local RGI ,plumber , electrician to replace .

what does the motorised valve look like ?

    Most common way of zoning.

I have seen zones done using circulation pumps though.

I might have the circulation pumps.

The pump for the water heating gets hot, but the water just isn't getting to the water tank in the hot press

It is most likely zone valves. Done with pumps only is extremely rare. Those zone valves will have electrical wire going to them as well as copper or plastic pipes, if that is any use in helping you find them. There should be 3 of them somewhere, usually in the hot press.

    Yup.
I have 3 just inside the back door.

    The boiler is outside

Now you need to find out the one for the hot water. Try the heating zones so that you can identify the valves associated with those. The remainder will be the hot water one.

The one furthest to the right is for the hot water.

It will get hot, but the cylinder in the horpress won't ( was on for 2hrs)

There should be a manual lever on it that can be operated and slotted into the on position. Turn on your hot water zone and manually operate that lever. See if that sorts it. You should have one of the pipes going into the side of the cylinder heat up in a few minutes.

Btw. Let me know if your boiler fires up when you do the above.

Go up to the attic and see if there's water in your small tank

The boiler fires up when I select the water zone.

The pipe for the water zone valve heats up, but doesnt travel to the immersion tank.

I can't find any switch, I've been looking since yesterday.

How far up the pipe does the heat go? Is there enough water in the system?

It's more of a leaver that takes a little effort to move than a switch.
Anyway as has been said (and especially as the boiler is firing) check that there is enough water in system.

No lever that I can find.
As for water in the small tank, that's a job for tomorrow

For tomorrow, post a pic of the valve, after checking the tank.

Are upstairs rads heating ? Where is cylinder in relation to upstairs rads, lower or higher?

    Ok, so an update..

There was a grey thermostat on the outside of the tank, it was right at the very back, and i have never seen it before.

It was never strapped to the cylinder, it was simply pushed into a cutout in the foam.

Stuck that back in, secured it with some cable ties, and hey presto, all sorted.

It is strange how that fixed it, seeing as the zone call for heat was already turning in boiler. Anyway, you have it going again. Might have been a loose wire in cylinder stat.

sorry, i wasnt clear,... the grey thermostat box had fallen off the cylinder.
    reattached it, and it worked.
