Dishwasher Earth wire

The dishwasher tripped out and when I opened it, there was an earth wire (that has a B shped connection, that connects to a 2-3 mm metal rectangle ) was hanging loose.

To trouble shoot I connected the earth wire to the casing of the dishwasher, and it didn't cause a trip out.

The weird thing is that there is no empty connection within the play of the earth wire - so sign of anywhere to connect it.

I don't want to start using it, as the casing of the dishwasher isn't earthed.

    Any words to the wise?

A broken/disconnected earth wire is unlikely to cause a trip as there shouldn't be any current passing through it. Dishwashers are prone to damaged wiring around the hinges so it would be worth dismantling covers and checking the condition of other wires.

You were right, it wasn't the earth.

The power button worked after I connected the earth which it didn't before.
But then when the pump started, it tripped out again. I'll take out the pump and check the connections.

    Thanks for that slimjimmc.
