Which of these two cars would you buy?

I have found two cars that I really like but can't make up my mind about which to buy. Particularly I am unsure about how easy the cars will be to sell when it comes my turn to be the seller and this could be in two years or less. Any advice would be much appreciated. Both cars are in equally good condition, same colour (chrome silver) and both cars are exactly the same price so it really comes down to the specs

    KIA RIO 1.4 CRDI

    Year: 2012
    Engine: 1.4 diesel
    2 owners
Full service history every 15k (so 3 in total)
    2 keys
    Mileage: 59 000km
2 years warranty on vehicle still

    OPEL ASTRA SRI 1.7 CDTI

    Year: 2011
    Engine: 1.7 diesel
    2 owners
Service history (but not sure if it can be considered full as first service done at 38k)
    1 keys
    Mileage: 65 000km
    No warranty on vehicle still

Both vehicles serviced with new tyres.

So what do you guys think. Which would you buy and why?

The Rio, even though it's smaller. It's one of the best small cars out there.

The thing is though, how did you come to this shortlist?

    Rio is Corsa size
    Ceed is Astra size.

Is the Rio going to be big enough for you?

    Which did you prefer?

Rio should be covered till 2019 or 160k btw.

Rio as still two years warranty.

    The Astra.

The Rio's are a bit of a dishwasher, the Astra feels a lot more solid and acomplished and the 1.7 is a sturdy engine with a good bit of shove.

The Astra i'd assume would come with a 6/ 12 month warranty from the dealer even if the manufacturers warranty is up.

On paper the Rio is clearly a better deal, but in terms of a car that you have to live with for x number of years, the Astra is a considerably nicer car.

The Rio would be the newer model though.

Astra seats aren't the most comfortable in the world... I have a 08 with the 1.7cdti with all leather seats. Very uncomfortable. Apart from that everything else is great. Good solid engines compared to for example those Renault 1.5dcis.
Don't know much about kias except I drove a new ceed hire car last year for a couple of days and thought it was horrible.

Them seats and the sri's lowered suspension are a bit rough. Still a lovely car, I'll be on the lookout for an astra in about 6 months as we need a 2nd car.

    Kia,obviously, warranty wins out

Is the Opel much bigger than the KIA? I felt that it may have been slightly bigger but not by a lot. Hard for me to say though without seeing them together.

Honestly if the Opel came with a warranty and was newer and had the lower mileage + full service history, I would prefer the Opel of course. The KIA seems like a bit less of a "serious" car on the inside aesthetically speaking. The plastic on the dashboard slightly cheaper looking if you know what I mean. The engine size I don't really care about but the Opel has much more power of course and might be easier to sell based on that spec whereas the KIA would have the warranty and service history to show that the mileage is 100% honest etc. It is so hard because they both drive so nicely and are such nice cars. I guess either would be a good buy.

Yeah this is what we were thinking. The Opel seems like a more "serious" car or more sturdy as you say. BTW I am buying privately so no warranty on Opel.

I would suggest stepping back from this a little and not get into an either/or situation on these particular cars yet.
It is an odd shortlist because the cars are quite different, Can you share with us your budget,
what sort of driving you're planning on doing,
    whether you need back doors
What will it be used for
What car did you have before this

The Kia Rio. Lovely car its also newer and has at least 2 yeas warranty left. If you were buying both cars from a dealer then may be the Astra but unless you know a lot and are able to service and maintain your own car yourself the Kia seems the better buy.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.
