If you ported your number directly then you'll have some downtime.

When VMI receive the port order they have to cease the line straight away to "free" the number to allow it to be transferred to Sky(OpenEir). The problem being that the line activation take a while so the number is left "dead" while it awaits the new line so it can be attached to it.

    The proper process is to:
    1. Order with Sky/eir/Voda
    2. Wait for them to fully complete
    3. Have them issue a number porting order to take the old number
    4. Make sure all VM services are cancelled.

In doing so you have a short period of "double service" but don't have any down time on your number. NB: This only applies to Non OpenEir <--> OpenEir transfers.

For you, depending on the state of the line you could be waiting for several days for things to progress. The handset ringing may have been somebody doing a jumper job at the exchange. That indicates you're close but if its not working now earliest is Monday evening.
