.....for a new key to arrive from Skoda because the main dealer I'm dealing with is spinning some great yarns.

Background here is that my mother's Yeti was delivered new on Jan 23rd with one key. The other went missing somewhere along the way. The salesman maintains that they are on back order and take weeks to come in. They've also failed once to fix the loaded rattle from around the dials which is seriously annoying.

I would think 2 weeks would be more than enough.

When the garage lost the keys for my car and it was locked with no keys they got new keycards from Renault France in a week and a half. So I'd say they are taking the piss maybe there is a genuine backlog but it's unlikely enough it's a key should be easy to get once they are willing to spend the money to get it that's probably more of the issue than availability.

BMW had my new key within 10 days or so.

It's very annoying as to be honest it's spoiling the new car purchase for my mother as these things play on her mind and annoy her.

Parts can take weeks to come in when on backorder. Especially for newer models as the supply line can be having teething problems. I regularly have people waiting weeks for parts and there is absolutely nothing I can do to speed up the process. I work in a multi franchise main dealer parts dept.
You just have to be patient I'm afraid. You are lucky that the part required is not keeping the car off the road. I had a lady wait 2 months for a radiator from Honda. Couldn't get her kids to school.

I'm happy to wait if there genuinely is a delay but I'm finding it hard to accept that a key could take as long to arrive as the whole car.

If you want to push it, bypass the salesman. He is not the one ordering the key. Go directly to the parts department and ask them about it. If it is on order then they will have a record. They can probably email their contact further up the supply line but be aware they usually reply next day and usually cannot be influenced by the parts guy. The only reason other than backorder is that the salesman is perhaps trying to dodge the expense. If it is ordered then you just have to wait.

Cheers for that. I'm trying to be careful as if it is an issue at Skoda end I wouldn't like to cause hassle for the sales guy if he hasn't actually done anything wrong.

I have been in contact with the parts department as the car has already been back for a few niggles.

The load rattle around the dials - it's not the perspex being a little loose is it?

Also, I'd be looking for two keys reprogrammed too since no one knows where or who has the second key.

Issue at the factory, I've been waiting for 6 weeks for a Skoda key.

    Thank you.

I forgot you worked for a main dealer. As it's a genuine reason then that's not the dealers fault. It just sounded odd that a key could take so long.

It's actually a problem with distribution at the minute. Have had a couple of keys for used cars take a good while to arrive.

Now just to sort the rattle
