Hi didn't want to post in the thread I already have regarding a new car I'm looking to buy felt it would get more attention here.

I currently have an insurance policy out with kennco through quote devil. I'm looking to upgrade the car to an e60 BMW msport. I rang my broker just there to get a price on changing over to that car on my policy and they came back to me and said that they will not insure me on the car because I am under 25. Can they do this?

Its only a 2 litre diesel I'm currently insured on a 1.9 TDI anyway. Do they have to give me a price on changing the car? I told them i already bought the car and theyre still refusing to change it.

    What 1.9 are you driving?
For example a 1.9 90bhp golf is a big difference to a 2.0 5 series with 160 or more bhp. Also while it won't make a blind bit of difference in the real world an m tech version will probably have a loading too.
Insurance companies will do what they like and there isn't anyone that can hold them accountable, not even the insurance ombudsman.

A 130bhp 6 speed Passat is what I'm driving at the moment. I asked for a reason why and they said its down to the losses they've had in the past few months that they aren't insuring "that sort of car ". Ridiculous in my opinion.

Insurance companies do classify the 5 Series alot higher than the likes of a Passat. I had a Passat CC and changed to a 520d and my premium rose by €150 at the time.

How long is left on the current policy OP? You might have to hold off until the policy matures so that you can shop around different insurance companies.

Ive seen this been bandied about here quite a bit as if insurers will suddenly roll over when they hear it, they wont.

Yes, they have to quote you if you went through the process of lodging a complaint with the FSO and the FSO ruled in your favour (no guarantee there by the way), but even at that they would likely offer you only minimum cover and load the bollox out of your premium for it too.

Best advice is to make a couple of calls to see will any company touch you with that car with a view to cancelling your current policy and taking one up elsewhere.
