Hi all, So I'm looking for a career change and I'm interested in renewable energy, Soo how does one go about getting a job in solar installation ? Can you get an apprenticeship in it ? How hard would it be to get a job in it without a construction or engineering background ?

I know these questions might sound naive but Im finding it difficult to get information

If its PV solar you'll need an electrical background.
Hydronic solar you'll must likely benefit most from a plumbing background.
If heat pumps and energy recovery are your thing then refrigeration is the best background. All have apprenticeships which take 4yrs to complete.
Easier to find apprenticeships in the first two than the third.

I'm going to college next year and wondering would it be better doing renewable energy engineering or just mechanical engineering , as mechanical would leave more doors open??
