Car insurance cancellation threat

    Apologies in advance.....

Against my advice, herself went and moved her car insurance away from one of the major players in the game to a less well known one ( definitely not fly by night, no siree  ). She changed her car about 6 days before the expiry of her policy and changed over the insurance to the new car. The proof of no claims bonus that the old insurer issued was on the old car as they issue the NCB cert with the renewal notice. She insured the new car with the new company and sent in her NCB. Having accepted the policy and taken the first payment, the they have now kicked off and said that they are not going to accept the NCB and cancel the policy by Monday. She has received email from the old company to say that the policy has been correctly changed over to the new car prior to expiry of the policy but this is not sufficient for the new insurance. Of course, like all of the companies now, they have no customer service....sales, they have plenty of, customer service, not so much! The new insurer want a letter on headed notepaper from the old one to say that everything was done properly, the old company say that they don't do that  Mind you, they are probably not minded to do so now that she is no longer with them!

It's no wonder that people change their car insurance every year

Why don't the previous insurer just issue a No Claims Bonus noting the new vehicle registration, if it was switched prior to the policy lapsing?

Whatever or whoever is at fault, resolve the issue before they enforce a cancellation. That's a declarable fact that will go against you in the future. Seems straightforward to me the way you described it

you could change your car 20 times over a period of 8-9 years ncb, makes no sense that its specific to one car

    Insurance companies are idiots!

I got a new cert for my new car in the post.
2 days later a renewal for my new car.
2 days after that a renewal including disc and cert for my old car...... And they were quite miffed when I told them I wouldn't be sending it back, coz I chucked it in the fire :)

Do the new company have a local office where you could call in. I don't understand what the issue is. The NCB refers to the years of claim free driving for the DRIVER not the CAR. Is this a case of ' computer says no'.

    AA?

They used to be ringing me pleading in whispers to send back their fvckups. Funny, if they had offered me a reasonable (lol) €40 documentation fee I would have done it no problem.
