    Hello all,

I am looking to change my car in the next 3 months or so,Currently driving 07 Honda Civic type R (Mid Life Crisis!) and I am looking to go back to diesel as I am travelling a lot more now with work, etc.

Child number 3 is on the way soon so I was thinking of going for an estate this time around as it gives more options when lugging stuff about \ collecting kids.I already have a 7 seater as the main family car.

Previous car to the civic was an 08 Diesel Mondeo and it was a great car but this time around I am thinking of the following:

    2010-2012 BMW 3 Series Touring
2010-2011 BMW 520d SE (Base Model)
    2010-2011 Audi A4 Avant S line
    2010-2012 Mondeo Estate

I am leaning towards either the 3 series estate or the A4 Avant but I wanted to see what people's opinions were,

I will probably import from the UK myself as the spec \ options are a lot better and cheaper.

Have looked at most other estate's and they don't appeal to me, (Insignia,I40,Mazda,etc)

    Thanks

I got a Skoda Superb Estate, and can really recommend it.

Loads of space, and in my eyes a lovely place top be in, especially in SE or Elegance Spec.

The Design might not be for everyone, but gets very good reviews and appears to be very reliable.

    Thanks

Think what you need this car for. If you already have a MPV to carry kids around and stuff their things, what would you use the estate for? You will not be able to comfortably fit all of them in car seats in the back anyway...

I guess you're looking for justification for a new car and that's a completely different talk ;)

I don't need to justify changing car lol I have already made that decision but thanks anyway

Once you have a few kids you need 2 capable cars as I often pick up kids \ take kids to matches at the weekend, etc

The Skoda superb does tick a lot of boxes but the look just doesn't appeal to me,

A friend of mine has the saloon version and its a great car its just not for me,

    Got a 2011 Citroen C5 Touring a while back.
Beautiful economic and seriously comfy car....I got it with the auto e-HDI engine and love it.
I was in no way considering it either and was looking for an estate.... but I drove it and that was it....
    Just my 2c

A4 Avant & 3 series estate boots are not the best in class for space
I would say the Insignia boot is also not super

Mondeo would be bigger, Volvo V70, Audi A6

    Thanks for the suggestions,

Couple of guys in work have insignia's and they wouldn't recommend them strangely enough,

Subaru Outback? Very nice in the 2.0l diesel.

I have an older 2.5l petrol and it is extremely comfy and smooth (even with 280k kilometres!).

I'm also in a Citroen C5 estate and would agree with the above. Mine's the Diesel 1.6 manual. Very comfortable, and I love the styling (especially the interior/dashboard styling).

Edit: although mine hasn't really given any hassle, there were no 2ltr versions about when I was looking to buy. Given the choice I'd probably opt for the 2ltr for any extra power. Car's great but coming from the 2tlr 407, I do notice the 1.6 is a tad sluggish. Still a quick car by all means but i'd opt for a 2ltr given the chance.

AND....... the eHDI has..... Paddle Shift..... Lol. I know it's pointless in this car but it's a lotta fun
