insulation material inside door of SIME 1R3 boiler

    I opened the door of my sisters kerosene boiler today, an old sime 1r3. There was a layer of insulation material inside the door which fell apart when I removed it. Where could I get some of this ? Thanks

    A plumber merchants would have them,About 15 to 20 euro,It is probally a 10mm board

    Yes,i think they come in something like 16" X 16",or maybe 14" x 14".If there is a Heatmerchants near you they would have it.

    Just ask for 'furnace board' (or insulfrax)

    Got it today €15.00 jpmatthews. Actually had to get 2. While cleaning the top fire box I noticed there was alot of soot in the lower burner area as the burner was removed. I opened the panel and the gasket fell apart also! Does this happen everytime the panels are removed to clean the boiler? That board seems quite brittle, even when new, presume there's nothing else that can be used?

    Yes the gasket board are quite brittle.They will perish over a long time.The boards dont have to be changed every time you remove the door.They will last a good few years if your carefull when removing and dont over tighten when refitting..If there is black soot in the boiler the burner is incorrectly set up making it inefficient
