Bullying advice ?

    Hi,

    I need some advice.

I work in the IT game.

I have a total controlling / forensic (miss absolutely nothing boss). Trusts no one under himself.

Every email is routed through him on all subject matters. He then filters and re-routes to suit his plan / agenda.

Anyway over the past 5 years i have been put on menial tasks.
Non-core projects / Extended code reviews (fussing on trivial issues.) I pointed this out to him on several occasions and looked for better work. He said to me that he has to give best work to his best engineer.

He only gives important projects to ONE individual.

Because all is controlled by theses two. No one else can get a look in.

He is over critical on code reviews with people he dislikes and does not get involved in code review with person he gives project work to.

Recently it has escalated where he avoids anyone asking me for advice (isolation)

this is really intimidating. It is destroying my self esteem. I am taking it home from work to my family.

I am about to leave for another job. I feel victimised.
    My self-esteem is eroded.

What can i do please some advice.

Does your company have an grievance process? Have you been through it yet? Do you really care if you're ready to leave?

Nothing you have mentioned sounds like bullying, just sounds like you have a crap boss. Just start looking for a new job, what are you looking to hear from a legal discussion board?

Legally you can document everything, go through it with a solicitor and see if there is something actionable. This will involve going through the company grievance procedures.

Frankly I'm frequently lead to believe that IT is the land of milk and honey, why not simply move on? You'll always go through periods where you're working for the second coming of our saviour Jesus Christ and times when you're working for a sadistic little twat. The rest of the time is somewhere in the middle.

Yep, move on, life is too short. Before you leave schedule a meeting with your manager’s boss & HR and let them know what’s going on.

One person can ruin a company’s moral, we have one where I work but luckily I don’t report to them

I agree. Move. In your exit interview, tell the truth about your experience. Say that you are not litigious and happy to move on but he is a major factor in you moving. They are the fools if they do nothing about it.

He sounds very insecure. Believe me things will be better elsewhere. you might even get a payrise.

It would occur to me that:

    1) Your boss is like what you say

    or

    2) Your quality of coding isn't up to par.

Though I can't recommend this, I wonder how you could test the above. Could you get a brilliant programmer to do a unit worth of code and see how it is received? Then you might be able to judge your bosses biases better!
