JSA - is the figure correct ?

I've been very recently assessed for JSA after being on JSB for 9 months. My JSB was €250.60 as my wife is an adult dependent and was assessed at a half rate of an adult dependent.

Regarding JSA, I supplied all the forms and accounts, and was assessed as having zero means. However my wife is self employed, and her profit for last year before tax was €10,400 and so her weekly means have been assessed at €200.

    I have been told that the JSA payable weekly to us is €188 + €124.80 - €200 = €112.80

Now, I am not sure this is correct ?

Is the weekly means not subject to further allowance of €20 per day at 3 days a week off the means, and then 60% allowance on the remaining figure e.g.

    €200 - €60 = €140 @ 60% = €84 weekly means

    Should I not be getting €188 + €124.80 - €84 = €228.80 ???

Found this on Citizens Advice site -

Part 1: Find out if you have an entitlement to Jobseeker’s Allowance
First, you must find out if you have an entitlement to Jobseeker’s Allowance.

To do this take your assessable weekly earnings and deduct €20 per day for each day you have worked up to a maximum of €60 (3 days). Next get 60% of the balance. This amount is your weekly means from work.

Assessable weekly earnings - €20 per day = total x 60% = weekly means from work.

You then work out what the maximum Jobseeker’s Allowance payment for your situation would be. You get this by adding together the maximum payment for yourself plus any increases for a qualified adult and any qualified children. If your weekly means are less than this figure then your daily means are calculated to find the actual amount of Jobseeker’s Allowance you will get.

If your weekly means from all sources are greater than the maximum Jobseeker’s Allowance payment for your situation then you will not get Jobseeker’s Allowance.

Means from self employment is euro for euro so there are not further allowances. The other allowances you refer to are in relation to paye employee not a self employed person or spouse/partner.

Just for clarification you havent been assessed as nil means for your claim, you have been assessed with means of €200 from your spouses/partners self employment.

Thanks for the response, but where does it say that self employed income is different to PAYE income ?
