Complaint about revenue.ie

At the start of the year I contacted revenue to update my marital status to Separated so from 1 Jan 2016. Since they made that change I am completely locked out of paye anytime. I cannot view any previous years or look at my records/previous correspondence.

I have contacted multiple times, most recently on the phone and I was told I would get a phone call back which never materialized. I got the most unhelpful message on MyEnquiries after waiting 4 weeks.

After sending the following follow up:

    18/02/2016 09:24

"I haven't had any update on this issue and the problem is still there and I'm concerned I am not able to view my tax history/records. Can someone please look into this and get back to me?"

    I get the response:

    04/03/2016 16:52

    "Dear Sir,

Apologies for the delay in responding to your queries.

It would appear that due to a change in your personal circumstances that it now prevents you from accessing PAYE Anytime.

    Regards,
    Sligo PAYE"

To say I was peeved would be an understatement.

What makes things worse is that I received a message stating there was correspondence in PAYE anytime and I can't access the portal to check it!! I do all my tax online.

What are the avenues of escalation? I've been a tax payer all my adult life and I find this "couldn't care less piss off" approach awful... My tax records is very important documentation and regardless of my civil status now the history is history and it shouldn't change.

    Cheers

Call in to the tax office locally and do your returns there until sorted. I can imagine problems with letting you have access to records when now separated from a person whose details would have also appeared on the documents.

I will have to but I'm going to ask revenue to provide me with a copy of all documentation going back to whenever which I would expect from a Data Protection stand point they have to comply with.

What is annoying is I cant' even get into the portal to turn off "Receive notification online only" or whatever the option is so everything will just keep going there and I will have no idea what it is.

You can complain to Revenue themselves - http://www.revenue.ie/en/about/custservice/how-complain-revenue.html

If you're not happy with that then maybe onto the Ombudsman. It wouldn't be a consumer issue as they are a statutory body.
