What cigarettes do you smoke?

I was at a wedding at the weekend down the country and went to get cigarettes and got John Player Blue and one of the lads said oh I thought only Dublin knackers smoked them! Well he was half right.

Nobody else seemed to be smoking JPB there. I've smoked them since I started smoking at school and most of my mates smoke them too. At work though Marlboro Lights, Bensons and Amber Leaf are the main ones.

Got me thinking about the different brands and why people go for what they do? What are most popular now?

JPB seems to be a Dublin thing alright, nobody I know down the country smokes them. Mentholated cigarettes seem to be making a comeback.

I don't smoke anymore. But when I started at the age of 16 I used to smoke JPB and Camels (I'm from Clare if that makes any difference). I moved on to rollies a year later, mainly dark blue Drum, then classic Amber Leaf due to it's cheapness. Even though I knew Amber Leaf was incredibly inferior to most tobaccos, every other type of rollie just felt weird and not the same. There was something about Amber Leaf that made me not want to smoke anything else!

A year ago I quit though :) One of the best decisions of my life and I implore everyone to do the same even though I know that's probably not what you want to hear in this thread! I will leave now.

They rebranded to John player red, snap more recently to John player blue special. They're a good bit cheaper than the regular jpb.

So, anyone who smokes, eats junk food or drinks alcohol is suicidal?

Woodbine are a lot healthier than any of the chemical modern muck. Speaking of Player's, do you still get the Navy Cut? Now there was a smoke

    None cause I'm not suicidal

Despite being long term suicidal in the past, and occasionally still being suicidal, I've still never smoked a single cigarette ever. How odd.

That's like saying despite being suicidal in the past I've never jumped off a bridge.

Amber Leaf is fecking manky, but when my BF moved up to Dublin he said he was getting fierce slagging off people for smoking Drum, which was apparently 'rotten culchie tobacco' and not half as sophisticated as the Amber Leaf they were all smoking...

Yes, because I really do smoke WW2 issue cigarettes.

It's really really not, and even making that comparison with smoking cigarettes shows a severe lack of understanding on suicide, and what suicide is about.... :(

    The lights are more popular.

A Red can taste like pure sex after a meal and a few drinks.

I smoked JPB in my teens I'm Ireland, then B&H for a bit in England before realising that Mayfair Superkings were cheaper. Went on to Drum, then Amber Leaf before quitting.

Be careful. Don't cut yourself on that edge there.

Started off on JPB, then went Marlboro Red. Rollies after that mostly Samson or Golden Virginia as they were the cheapest for me at the time (Samson off the dealers in town, GV usually brought back on Duty Free). The occasional Duma/Drum pouch around this time as well if stuck.
Back to JPB after that, then down to Marlboro lights and lastly on to what i once considered unthinkable, Silk Cut Purples!
Still have the occasional cigarette, but mostly vape these days!

Jesus yes. Used to smoke Purple Silk Cut in college. Had one of these every now and again. T'was like inhaling the backblast from a bazooka. It was also the granddad's cigarette of choice.

I find it hard to understand how anybody still smokes nowadays, with all we know about the diseases it causes with so many people having witnessed people close to them dying from smoking related cancer. Is it not real enough for you?

I always wondered about the pure mank and sh*te people smoke in this country. It's like when they're finished making the cigarettes for other countries they sweep out the factory, pour perfume over the crap and make Silk Cut from it. No one smokes proper cigarettes here. It's all that light crap, you're deluding yourself if you think by smoking tasteless sh*t, you're somehow healthier. Same as drinking diet soft drinks. You drink sh*t that tastes like sh*t and is even unhealthier for you.
If you're going to be unhealthy, don't be a pussy about it! Have a few beer, a few whiskey, smoke a pack of fags and go get yourself a burger and chips.
Back to fags.. You get lovely stuff anywhere else, ciggies without additives are popular in Germany right now (Lucky Strike brown), none of that light crap with added cat piss.
I used to smoke (not anymore) and in the beginning it was Camel, Marlboro, Gauloises Blonde and my favourite, Lucky Strikes.
Switched to rolling tobacco later, Drum first and then cheapo Aldi tobacco. For €3.40 for a 40g pouch, no one's complaining. I used to fly over, buy 20 pack of that stuff and never pay fcuked in the head Irish prices. My habit cost me buttons! :D
Stopped now, but every now and then (like 2-3 times a year) I fancy a smoke and buy myself a packet of Hamlets.

I'm on the ecig since the start of January, it's how I get off this now as well so it will be considerably easier.

JPB when I started smoking in school 18 years ago, Silk Cut purple more recently.

Used to be Cravan A, then Carrolls No. 1, then many different experiments until settling on Silk Cut Blue for the past number of years.

Man I still miss a JPB in a beer garden on a rare sunny day, perfection!

Years ago I was all about the Marlboro reds. Tried and tested a few other brands in between such as Dunhill Lights (the original, with the red/white box) which were super smooth. Then I didn't smoke a whole lot for a while and returned to Marlboro lights, usually at the weekend when having a few ales.

I'd smoke Marlboro touch now (again, few and far between), which are the thinner, stubbier, less smoky and don't seem to cloy in terms of what usually feels toxic like a normal sized cigarette. Plus they're about 2 quid cheaper.
