Hi, just looking for recommendations for apps which people find useful for travelling. I am heading off on a big holiday this year to San Francisco & the surrounding areas so it got me thinking. I have used the city version of Trip Advisor before which is useful. I also remember hearing of one which advises on clothes to pack for the weather but can't remember the name

Citymapper is great for getting around. I also use Tripit to keep all my travel plans in one place.

    +1 for Tripit.
Also like Tripomatic to get an idea of tours and activities available at a location, then google the description to find the original vendor if I want to book.

    XE Currency Converter
    Kayak/OnTheFly/Skyscanner for flights.
    Booking.com/Ebookers/Hotels.com
    AirBnB
    HERE Maps
Google Maps obviously if you have a data connection.
Google Translate (not for US probably but anyway).
    SeatGuru
    Tripadvisor

Yelp is good for USA travel, when trying to find good bars, cafes, restaurants, etc

Worldmate is a good alternative for TripIt

OpenTable, again good in the USA for restaurant reservations

San Fran climate can change more than once in a day.
climate does not change in a day, anywhere.

otherwise, I'd add that bahn.de is the best rail timetable service for Europe and theres an associated app (I still prefer the flexibility of the proper website)

for city travel on public transport, google maps (aka google transit) is fantastic for its usability. The local operators often have the latest info on interruptions etc so better if living or staying in a place long term, but for tourists Google transit is brilliant if you mainly just want to see how to get from A to B.

https://uk.flightaware.com/ is a flight tracking website (you can see where planes currently are on a map) which has the added feature of being able to look up the record of a certain flight over a few weeks, so you can judge the likelyhood of it being on time which is useful if looking to catch a bus or unsecured flight connection on the other end.

For flights, skyscanner is the biz. It often shows dodgy greek operators with the cheapest fares, but if the fares are valid then Opodo (a service co-owned by British Airways, KLM etc) , eBookers or other large operator should have the same deal. As I found with a flight booking last week, theres times agencies like Opodo have flights which the airlines themselves dont have. For the likes of Ryanair this isnt the case, but for KLM/ Lufthansa etc who release separate contingents to travel agency booking systems, or may have connecting flights with sister airlines, you do need to check 3rd party sites and you can get lucky.

Ok, lets put it this way, there can be many types of weather in one day in San Fran, from very hot to very cold!
