Permanent Hair Straightening Munster Area

    Hi there,

Does anyone know of anywhere in the Cork/Limerick or anywhere in Muster that does permanent hair straightening?

I'm not talking about the the permanent 12 week blow dry.

I mean the permanent straightening where just your roots grow back curly but rest of your hair has been permanently straightened.

I'm living in Sydney at the moment and I get in done in a Japanese salon every 4 or 5 months....I love it! I literally don't even need a hairdryer anymore and I can't remember the last time I used a ghd. It saves me soooooo much time!!!

I know there's places in Dublin which do "Yuko" straightening, which I think is pretty much the same thing as what I get done here in Sydney

But I'm struggling to find somewhere in Munster that does it. It doesn't even have to be the Japanese one - just as long as it's permanent & formaldehyde free

And I definitely do not want the 12 week blow dry - does nothing for my hair so is a complete waste of money for me.

I'll go to Dublin if I have to but that'd just be a pain!

I know there's been previous threads on this but I still can't find an answer

Thanks sooo much for any help x

There isn't any place in limerick that does yuko. I used to get mine done in Dublin in the Chinese hair salons on Parnell Street a few years back. I think they are your best bet for it. Imo there is no 'irish' hair salon doing yuko regularly and those that do offer it are ridiculously overpriced.

I haven't got yuko done in years though as I think the technology for 12 week blowdry has really moved on and that works just as well on my hair. I get my twelve week blowdry done in Shades of Beauty on Thomas Street in Limerick

Yes I think my hair is in much better condition since I started doing the 12 week blowdry. I rarely need to use my Ghd's, I maybe use them one or twice in three months if I want a super sleek look. I do a lot of exercise so wash my hair regularly and the 12 week blowdry makes it so easy to just blast with a hairdryer and have nice straight, frizz free hair.

12 week blow drys are really bad for you. They contain formaldehyde which is a known carcinogen

Not anymore, formaldeyhde was banned from all treatments back in 2012.

Panda thanks so much for getting back to me

Just a question about the 12 week blowdry...

I used to get this done years ago before formaldehyde was banned and I did get amazing results from it. But then once the formaldehyde was taken out, it made zero difference to my hair so was a total waste of money

Do you mind me asking what kind of hair you have?

I have extremely thick/curly/frizzy hair - I literally can do nothing with it when it's curly, can't even tie it in a pony tail, i have to try and wrestle it into a bun!!

But that's great if the 12 week blow drys have gotten better....I'll give it a go thanks Panda :)

My hair is very thick and frizzy but it's not curly. I do think the 12 week blowdry gets rid of the frizz and makes it more manageable. But yes, I agree with you that for straightening/smoothing curly hair then yuko is the way to go. Would you think of doing a day trip up to Dublin? There are three Chinese hair salons on Parnell Street and they are all pretty good. Dont be put off by the shoddy decor. I think one is called korena? Also meant to be a good one on capel street too. If you want to get yuko done in Ireland they are the places to go.
