Hi all, am driving a 2001 Passed diesel, and it's getting to the stage where it needs almost it's own value of repairs/maintenance.
Looking around DD I see lots of 04 and 05 Accord Executive 2.2 diesel models under 3000 Euro. Some under 2000!
Seems a lot of car for 2500 ish, and I'd say the Passat should see 600 or 800 inAuction.
What do you guys think of them?
There are probably threads on Accords, but this phone won't let me do thread searches.

Plenty on here will know more than me but I was looking at a few a couple of years ago and found that the diesels felt sluggish for 2.2 L tax and it was hard to find one that wasn't fairly ragged.

I bought an 06 2.0 L Petrol one recently and love it. Exec spec gives plenty of toys and the only thing I think it could do with is cooled seats for long trips.

Yeah I know, but it's still only a bit extra than for the 1900cc I'm paying at the moment.
As someone else remarked, paying ten grand more just to save on road tax sticks in my craw.
I had an Accord back about 1999 or so, a two litre petrol auto.(90 D 34268 I think) It was super comfortable and reliable, just I couldn't really afford the petrol at the time.

710 vs 994. it's not a huge diffrence but it is nearly 50% more at the same time.
they just aren't powerful enough to justify it IMO but tthe accord is a nice car all the same.

The serpentine belt that came with these needs to be replaced for a shorter one, or else you'll have alternator problems. There's also major issues with the timing chain if not serviced bang on time, every time, with 0W30 oil - if there isn't proof of this, walk. Injectors also give problems, they're impossible to get out if they do, costing a small fortune to get out and replace. Fuel filter also needs to be OEM on service, anything else will lead to misfires!

Feck, all the things its hard to prove were done on a decade old diesel car. I think I'll look elsewhere.
Although the 2.0 petrol might be less throublesome?
Thanks for the info, appreciate it.

A VSA warning light on the diesel model can result in a very pricey repair, see this thread...

Dont be put off buying an accord. Just make sure you get a full service history. The correct oil is v important on the ictdi engine. Most chain issues were down to incorrect oil. There are some vsa issues and chain issues but alot on here report them as if they are common place issues and expensive to put right. My Vsa sensor failed on the rear a few yrs ago. It cost circa €200. Most of the chain and manifold issues were covered by honda on cars up to 7 yrs old with a free injector change completed too. I had mine done as a precaution just prior to its 7 yr anniversary. But mechanic said it would prob have been fine. But as honda were covering it he said better be safe than sorry We have ours 8 yrs and has now covered over 280,000 km. In my over 20yrs driving over 9 cars its been our most relaible.. Another family member has an 06 and has coveed a little less but has had no chain or vsa issues.

Negative points Tax and the seats are brutal for a bad back. Road noise little high too inside cabin. Otherwise faultless.

I like the look of those accords myself, the tax is just too high though. Do they come any smaller than 2.2 litre?

    There's a 2.0 petrol option as well.

What you pay on tax you'll save on with its reliability. I just changed its 1st suspension conponent ever last week. 11yr old 280k. Changed one drop link. A whopping €30.
