So anyone trying these? It's on in my home club (galway bay) in April but greens are being hollow tined next week so won't play there.

This one in particular boils my blood

it is only when you read the small print that you realise you are not guaranteed a game at RCD

    They are saucy arent they.
I mean with all credit to Ballykisteen. It should not be 65e to play there in April.
Grand course but you could play it on an open day for 15quid. Would prefer to just buy myself something for the extra 50 rather than have the slight chance of winning something.

Am going to try and play Mt Juliet edition. Never played the course before and even though 85e is steep, they do put on a good show. If we get a good day weather wise, I can just about justify it!

Big money for some of the courses, I wont be playing in any of them.
We played in the summer links trophy last year, 1st course downpatrick was very average, Ardglass was super and we qualified for RCD but some didnt had to play the Annesley course which is no better than Corballis(I love corballis). Organisation was a bit of a shambles, some people didnt get to finish Ardlgass due to slow play. You go out on the last day in order of total points, so if your driving up with a few keep this in mind.

Used to play a couple of these each year but don't think I will this time. I think the standard of courses (generally speaking) has declined each year and prices have remained the same for inferior courses. It's just too pricey for what you get. Royal Dublin was a brilliant day but courses like this have dropped off unfortunately. It was worth the money, a real treat. Many of the others are names you'd skip over easily I think. Pity really.

I wouldn't recommend anyone to bother with these events. they're really a money making excuse for Golf Digest. Its all noise and bluster (tee box announcements) but very little to show for it at the end. They really try to squeeze as much cash as they can and in return give you as little as they can, most of what they give is sponsored anyway.

Little harsh. Played 3-4 of these over the last few years and although they're expensive its a different experience to the usual open comp. I've always found them enjoyable and good fun. Well run too

One of our party still has cans of 7 up in his fridge from the Carton House Monty event 3 years back!Shameless and of course cannot be condoned

At single course events they may not be too bad, way overpriced for some of the courses and members pay the same price, not many will pay 60 or 70 quid to play there own track. Its the 3 day events at RCD that I'm on about, they promised strokesavers for each course, not one was provided at ANY course. They give you a bag of "goodies" at each course, an apple, a nutragrain bar, sponsored cod liver oil tablets(not joking) btl of water and a golf digest magazine. There are several bins of water, soft drinks, and nutragrain bars every 6 or 7 holes. ( I would fill my bag with as much as you can hold with bars and drinks for the months ahead) You are not guaranteed to play RCD, only Ardglass and Downpatrick, misleading advertising. At RCD, no course rangers or indeed any effort to move things along, on the last few holes on my round in Ardglass I seen loads of tee boxes with between 8 and 12 golfer waiting to tee off(sweet mother of jesus) such were the delays. If your not in the first 20 or so groups, it'll be a long day. I could go on and on but I don't think my comments were a bit harsh at all, understated if anything. Anyone heading to the spring or summer links events, thats the reality. Factor it in to your plans.

Any idea on when 2017 schedule will be posted up? Usually have the schedule up in December.
